Timo Jüngling and Lewis Wherrell complete JHR Developments clean sweep at Snetterton

Timo Jüngling and Lewis Wherrell enjoyed a share of the spoils at Snetterton today (24 May) to complete an incredible clean sweep for JHR Developments in the Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA.

Basking in bright sunshine, Jüngling and Wherrell stormed to a win apiece to ensure that the Derbyshire team walked away with the bragging rights, having topped every competitive session at the Norfolk venue.

With the searing temperatures of Saturday carrying over into Sunday, race two – the partially reversed grid contest – proved to be one of attrition, as Jüngling became the series’ seventh different winner and 15th different driver to stand on the podium in eight races.

Starting from pole position, the German racer made a near-perfect start to fend off the advances of fellow front-row starter Cash Felber (Fortec Motorsports) while just a few spots back, Virtuosi Racing team-mates Joseph Smith and Jarrett Clark banged wheels as they charged into turn one.

More drama would ensue further down the order as Piotr Orzechowski (Chris Dittmann Racing) was pushed onto the grass at Wilson, resulting in the Lotus Safety Car making an appearance as his machine was recovered.

On the restart, Jüngling put the hammer down to pull clear while Felber resisted the challenges of Dries Van Langendonck (Rodin Motorsport) in third. Despite the best efforts of the McLaren- supported driver, Felber held firm to prevail ahead of the Belgian ace.

Up ahead, Jüngling was flawless as he charged to victory, also claimed Rookie Cup honours and the Lotus Fastest Lap for good measure too.

Behind Van Langendonck, George Proudford-Nalder (Virtuosi Racing) went one better than he did yesterday to finish fourth; narrowly ahead of Ethan Jeff-Hall (Argenti Motorsport) and the charging Scott Kin Lindblom (Hitech) who produced a number of stunning late-braking overtakes.

Completing the top-ten was race one winner Wherrell, Ethan Lennon (Rodin Motorsport), Adam Al Azhari (Hitech) and the recovering Clark.

Wherrell then closed out the weekend in superlative style as he produced a defensive masterclass to beat Al Azhari in a shortened feature race; with the first start to the race being quickly curtailed following separate incidents.

On the restart, Wherrell attempted to break clear, however try as he might, he couldn’t gap Al Azhari. The Hitech driver was a constant presence in the mirrors of Wherrell but was unable to find a way past as the clock ticked down and he ultimately settled for second.

That allowed Wherrell to pull clear on the final lap and complete a remarkable weekend for JHR Developments as they topped both Free Practice sessions on Friday, Qualifying on Saturday morning and then all three races.

Lennon demonstrated his overtaking prowess to clinch his second podium of the season while Kin Lindblom again starred, this time fighting his way up to fourth, grabbing the Lotus Fastest Lap on the way.

Theo Palmer (Hitech) bounced back from a non-finish in race two to complete the top five, narrowly ahead of the Proudford-Nalder, Van Langendonck, Jeff-Hall, Clark and Tommy Harfield (Chris Dittmann Racing) grouping.

At the end of yet another hard-fought weekend of British F4 action, Van Langendonck sits at the top of the Drivers’ Championship with a 29-point advantage over Wherrell, while Kin Lindblom is a further nine in arrears in third.

In the Rookie Cup, Van Langendonck also leads Wherrell in the points, however Hitech have now moved ahead of Rodin Motorsport at the summit of Teams’ Cup.

The Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA doesn’t have to wait long until it is next in action, as the series heads to the Home of British Motor Racing, Silverstone, this coming week (May 29-31) for its coveted BRDC International Trophy meeting with all three races being live streamed on the Championship’s YouTube channel.
