Jaber Alsabah made it back-to-back wins in the Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA after charging to victory in a captivating opening encounter at Donington Park.
Having triumphed in the UK’s premier single-seater series for the first time at Thruxton last time out, the Xcel Motorsport driver produced a wheel-perfect performance on the Grand Prix circuit at Donington to double his tally for the season.
Behind the Kuwaiti native, Tommy Harfield (Chris Dittmann Racing) and Ethan Jeff-Hall (Argenti Motorsport) wowed the crowds as they went wheel-to-wheel to decide the remaining spots on the podium; with Harfield ultimately getting the better of the Mercedes F1 Junior driver.
Harfield’s day at the Leicestershire venue – scene of his and Chris Dittmann Racing’s maiden British F4 victory last year – began in thrilling fashion as he clinched a first CADOLA Pole Position Award of the campaign.
Jeff-Hall had appeared to be on course to snatch pole position himself in qualifying, but a frantic final few minutes saw Harfield stake his claim with two consecutive laps that enabled him to surge up the order.
The British racer bagged pole position for races one and three, although it was ultimately by the finest of margins as George Proudford-Nalder hustled his Virtuosi Racing machine to within 0.080s of his benchmark time.
A further tenth of a second in arrears was the duo of Jeff-Hall and Alsabah, securing third and fourth respectively, while Ethan Lennon (Rodin Motorsport) and Theo Palmer (Hitech) were next up to complete the top six.
Second fastest lap times decided the grid for race one later in the day and as soon as the red lights went out, Alsabah got the jump on Harfield, out-dragging the multiple race winner towards Redgate corner, and with a clear road ahead of him, he quickly set about breaking clear of the chasing pack.
Jeff-Hall also found a way past Harfield, as the 29-car field plunged down the Craner Curves, but Harfield immediately battled back to reclaim second place. From there, the two then became embroiled in an enthralling back-and-forth duel over the next few laps.
As the race entered its closing stages, the top three soon began to close up but despite getting to within half a second of Alsabah, Harfield was unable to make a decisive move – especially as waiting in the wings and ready to strike was an eager Jeff-Hall.
On the final lap, Alsabah stamped his authority on proceedings by earning the Lotus Fastest Lap -pulling clear to secure a second overall career victory and a fourth Rookie Cup win of the 2026 term.
Behind the top three, Proudford-Nalder kept Lewis Wherrell (JHR Developments) at arm’s length throughout the race, to secure fourth whilst Palmer completed the top six.
Rounding out the top-ten was Lennon, Cameron Nelson (JHR Developments), Cole Hewetson (Xcel Motorsport) and Jarrett Clark (Virtuosi Racing) – who was hampered by a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits one too many times.
Races two and three of the Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA from Donington Park are scheduled to take place at 10:20 and 15:35, respectively on Sunday.
Both races will be aired live on ITV4 for the UK audience, while international viewers can watch the two encounters on the British F4 YouTube channel.
