The list of race winners in the 2026 Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA continued to grow at Thruxton today (July 26), as Adam Al Azhari and Jaber Alsabah became the latest two drivers to stand on the top step of the podium, with the total now standing at 11 different winners from the 18 rounds.
Taking centre stage at the Hampshire venue for the second and final day of high-speed action, Hitech’s Al Azhari reigned supreme in a frenetic reverse grid encounter before Xcel Motorsport’s Alsabah produced a defensive masterclass to triumph in the weekend’s finale, to give the championship’s youngest team its first win in 455 days.
Despite enduring a rollercoaster visit to the fastest circuit in the country, Dries Van Langendonck (Rodin Motorsport) remains the pace-setter in the Drivers’ Championship – with his advantage over Lewis Wherrell (JHR Developments) now sitting at 41 points.
In front of a packed trackside crowd, Sunday’s proceedings began with Al Azhari opening his account for the season with a commanding performance.
Starting from pole position, the Emirati driver made the perfect start as the lights went out, while behind him, Scott Kin Lindblom (Hitech) and Tommy Harfield (Chris Dittmann Racing) hotly contested the same piece of tarmac for second place.
Lindblom momentarily came out on top of that particular battle while further back, Van Langendonck saw his race come to an abrupt end as he received rear-end contact from Jarrett Clark (Virtuosi Racing) heading into the final chicane.
The race would twice be impacted by the appearance of the Lotus Safety Car, the first for a collision between Xcel Motorsport team-mates Cole Hewetson and Mate Kobahidze, before Harfield and Lindblom then had a coming together – with the latter failing to finish.
In between the pauses behind the Safety Car, Al Azhari set a relentless pace out front to comfortably triumph, while Harfield recovered to bag runner-up laurels. In addition to his victory, Al Azhari notched up the first for Hitech this season and also secured the Lotus Fastest Lap Award.
Ethan Jeff-Hall (Argenti Motorsport) completed the podium in third after Clark was handed a time penalty for his part in the Van Langendonck incident; Alsabah, Ethan Lennon (Rodin Motorsport) and Cameron Nelson (JHR Developments) completed the top six.
Rounding out the top ten points scorers was Roman Felber (Fortec Motorsports) who scored a season-best result of seventh, Chiara Bättig (Hitech), Timo Jüngling (JHR Developments) and Alfie Slater (Rodin Motorsport) – who also secured his best result of the season.
Later in the day, Alsabah then clinched both his and Xcel Motorsport’s first win of the season in the UK’s premier single-seater series, after soaking up a torrent of pressure from title contender Wherrell.
Lining up on pole position courtesy of his sublime lap in Saturday’s qualifying session, the Kuwaiti driver delivered one of the drives of his fledgling career, as he handled Safety Car restarts and a charging Wherrell within the 25-minute Feature Race contest.
Similar to the day’s earlier bout, a number of incidents disrupted proceedings however when the green flag was waving, Alsabah and Wherrell wowed the crowds as they produced a tantalising battle for overall honours.
In what was very much a cat-and-mouse duel, Wherrell attempted to prise the door open on several occasions, only to have it abruptly shut by Alsabah. In the end, the unflustered rookie prevailed to become the 11th different winner of the current campaign and in the process helped to secure Xcel Motorsport’s first Feature Race win.
Behind the top two, McLaren Development Driver Van Langendonck signed off his somewhat turbulent weekend with a third-place finish after he bested both Jeff-Hall and Harfield at mid-distance.
Leaving Thruxton’s Round 6, Dries Van Langendonck continues to lead both the Wera Tools British F4 Driver’s and Rookie’s Championships, with Hitech maintaining their advantage in the Team’s Cup.
Race one winner Theo Palmer (Hitech), Joseph Smith (Virtuosi Racing) – who picked up the Lotus Fastest Lap Award – Nelson, Bättig and Al Azhari then completed the top ten.
The 2026 Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA season continues on August 22-23 as the series returns to Donington Park, this time to take on the longer Grand Prix layout.
