British F4 races back to Donington Park as title tussle intensifies

The fight for front-running honours in the Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA is expected to intensify this weekend (August 22-23) as the UK’s premier single-seater series returns to Donington Park for Rounds 19, 20 and 21 of the 2026 season.

It was back in April that the East Midlands circuit lit the blue touch paper for what has turned out to be yet another ultra-competitive campaign, and now – on the Grand Prix layout – the race is very much on for those that are chasing title glory.

Cementing that this season is one of the most competitive in recent times is the fact that 11 different drivers have claimed victory already, while a total of 19 different drivers are overall podium finishers. Incredibly, those numbers could yet grow even further.

Renowned for its sweeping corners and challenging braking zones, the longer 2.49-mile configuration is a firm favourite among drivers and spectators alike; and all the ingredients are there for a spectacular three races across this coming Saturday and Sunday.

Race is on to catch Van Langendonck

Dries Van Langendonck (Rodin Motorsport) left Donington Park at the start of the season as the driver that everyone was bidding to catch and four months on that still remains the case, with the Belgian native holding a 41-point advantage at the summit of the standings.

Enlisted on the McLaren Driver Development Programme, Van Langendonck has been a tour-de-force at times this season with four wins and a further three podiums forming the backbone of his title charge so far.

Ironically it was at this corresponding round last year that the 15-year-old first made his mark in the series as he clinched a pole position and race win on his car racing debut. Just a year later, he could now strengthen his quest to clinch one of the most coveted titles on the FIA single-seater ladder.

JHR Developments’ Lewis Wherrell leads the chase for Van Langendonck and, after enjoying a purple patch of form earlier in the campaign, the British teenager has endured a challenging few events. Many are expecting him to bounce back in sublime style, starting this weekend.

Theo Palmer (Hitech) has momentum on his side after scoring a breakthrough win at Thruxton. He sits narrowly ahead of Mercedes F1 Junior Ethan Jeff-Hall (Argenti Motorsport) and Red Bull-backed Swede Scott Kin Lindblom (Hitech), who is ever-close to a maiden triumph.

Three more race winners are next up in the standings – George Proudford-Nalder (Virtuosi Racing), Adam Al Azhari (Hitech) and Ethan Lennon (Rodin Motorsport) – while Tommy Harfield (Chris Dittmann Racing) and Jaber Alsabah (Xcel Motorsport) have also shown front-running potential.

Given the depth of talent that the ‘Class of 2026’ possesses, it’ll come as no surprise that several other drivers will look to make an impression towards the very front of the field.

Virtuosi Racing diver Jarrett Clark is a race winner, while the likes of Cameron Nelson (JHR Developments), Chiara Bättig (Hitech) and Fortec Motorsports duo Ethan Carney and Cash Felber have all stood on the rostrum.

Chasing Donington delight

Since forming part of the British F4 schedule in 2023, the legendary Donington Park Grand Prix circuit – which sits directly under the flightpath of East Midlands airport – has become a firm favourite for the paddock.

Despite being a little over half a mile longer than the National circuit, the inclusion of the Esses, the Melbourne Hairpin and then the Goddards Hairpin not only dramatically changes the flow of the lap, but it also presents many new overtaking opportunities.

The inclusion of two heavy braking zones should enable the next generation of racing stars to showcase their prowess behind the wheel even more – and that is something that is certainly not to be missed over the course of the weekend.
