Former British F4 drivers Luke Browning and Jack Doohan will both make debuts, albeit slightly different ones, at the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend.
Doohan, who won the Rookie Cup in 2018 and finished fifth overall, is set for his first full F1 Grand Prix weekend with Alpine, after being confirmed as part of their 2025 driver line-up alongside Pierre Gasly earlier this year.
With Esteban Ocon completing his final race for the team in Qatar ahead of his move to Haas next season, Australian driver Doohan will get his first taste of a full F1 weekend, having already featured during two FP1 sessions this year as part of his reserve driver duties for Alpine.
Williams Racing junior driver Browning, meanwhile, is set for his first ever F1 appearance with the team as he prepares to run in FP1.
The 2020 British F4 champion, who joined the team’s academy in April 2023, finished third in the Formula 3 championship this year, and has since stepped up to Formula 2 for the final three rounds of the season with ART Grand Prix.
Browning will also take part in the post-season Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi with Williams.
Elsewhere, 2020 Rookie Cup winner Christian Mansell will also be rounding off his season in Formula 2 with Trident, after finishing fifth overall in Formula 3.
The Australian has already been confirmed as part of Rodin Motorsport’s 2025 Formula 2 line-up.
Rafael Villagómez, who finished P11 in his debut British F4 season in 2020, is set to complete his first full season in Formula 2 with Van Amersfoort Racing.
And in Formula 1, team-mates Lando Norris (2015 champion) and Oscar Piastri (P2 in 2017) will be aiming to help their team McLaren to win the Constructors’ Championship.
