ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA points leader Alex Dunne has been selected to attend the prestigious Ferrari Driver Academy’s scouting camp this week [19 September].
The Irish teenager has been the ‘one to beat’ in Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series this season, claiming a record-breaking 11 wins, an additional four podiums and five pole positions. He holds a commanding 106-point lead heading to Silverstone this weekend, with the chance to wrap up the coveted title a meeting early.
Dunne will now spend four days split between Ferrari’s headquarters at Maranello and it’s test track at Fiorano. The programme, designed to test the hopefuls in every major aspect of life as a professional racing driver, including physical and mental strength assessments. Track activity will center around laps in a Formula 4 car, plus a track walk of Fiorano.
Should Dunne be deemed as a potential Ferrari star of the future, he will then progress to the Scouting World Finals hosted by the legendary Italian marque at the end of the year. From there, the potential exists for Dunne to be formally inducted into the Ferrari Driver Academy.
“It’s obviously a great honour and a privilege to be selected for one of the Ferrari Driver Academy scouting camps,” says Dunne.
“It’s been a strong season for me on track, leading the British F4 championship and running up at the front in Italy. I’ve learned a lot, and gained some really valuable experience, which I’m sure will put me in a good place for the assessments.
“It’s very competitive, but I’m confident in my abilities and, as always, will just try to do my best and see where the opportunity leads.”
