Billy Monger has sensationally broken the Ironman triathlon record for a double amputee at the World Championship in Hawaii, raising thousands of pounds for Comic Relief in the process.
Monger, who raced in British F4 in 2016 and 2017, completed the 140.6-mile course in 14 hours, 23 minutes and 56 seconds, beating the previous best time by two hours, three minutes and three seconds.
The fundraiser currently stands at almost £25,000 – you can find out more and donate here.
25-year-old Monger had to have both legs amputated after being involved in a horrific crash at Donington Park in 2017 at the age of 17. Prior to this, he had competed in 33 races, achieving five podium finishes.
A JustGiving fundraiser was set up by his team JHR Developments at the time and Monger received an outpouring of support from the motorsport world, including the British F4 paddock. Just six months after his accident, Monger made a return to the paddock in order to walk the Brands Hatch circuit on his new prosthetic limbs, raising money for the Air Ambulance charity which helped to save his life after the crash.
After making a return to racing just one year later in British Formula 3, and winning his first race since the accident in EuroFormula Open in 2019, Monger has gone on to forge a successful career in the media. He has been part of the team providing F1 coverage on Channel 4 since 2019, and has also presented coverage of the Paralympics, most recently at Paris 2024.
