Daniel Guinchard: “We’re improving every race”

Phinsys by Argenti’s Daniel Guinchard says he wants to be fighting for race victories on a more regular basis as the 2022 ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA prepares to resume at Knockhill next week (29-31 July).

As with most drivers, the step up from karting, in which Guinchard was a two-time British champion last season, to single seaters has been a steep learning curve.

The 15-year-old enjoyed a string of consistent points finishes in the opening rounds, before netting a breakthrough podium behind Argenti team-mate Aiden Neate in the second contest at Thruxton in May.

That momentum put Guinchard on the right track, and the Mercedes-AMG F1 junior went one better at Oulton Park next time out, charging from fifth to the victory. Since, he has proven to be a thorn in the side of the main championship protagonists, and now sits joint sixth, tied on 96 points with JHR’s Georgi Dimitrov.

“The season has been tougher than expected but the team and I are working very hard to get where we want to be and we’re improving constantly every race,” says Guinchard. “The highlight has to be getting my first car racing win at Oulton park in race two.

“The new car definitely requires a different technique and driving style compared to the old car. In racing conditions the car struggles more than the old car and it seems quite difficult to follow closely for a race duration.

“My mindset has been the same all season long and I don’t plan to change that,” he adds. “I want to make sure I’m always developing myself as a driver and an all-round package and I want to be fighting for wins more regularly as the season progresses further.”

Following the annual pilgrimage to Scotland for Knockhill, the series takes in further events at Snetterton, Thruxton and Silverstone before concluding on Brands Hatch’s Grand Prix layout in October.
