Scott Kin Lindblom and George Proudford-Nalder enjoyed the share of the spoils that were on offer today (August 23) as the Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA took centre stage in front of a capacity crowd at Donington Park.
Following on from an exciting opening Race 1encounter at the Leicestershire circuit, the UK’s premier single-seater series delivered two more action-packed races – the first of which was won by Hitech’s Kin Lindblom, before Virtuosi Racing’s Proudford-Nalder then came to the fore in a thrilling finale.
The day began on the Grand Prix circuit with Red Bull Junior driver Kin Lindblom becoming the 12th different winner of the season as he reigned supreme in a frenetic reverse grid contest.
Starting on the front row alongside pole-sitter Henry Mercier (Chris Dittmann Racing), the Swedish star made the perfect start as the red lights went out and powered into the lead as the field charged into Redgate.
With a clear road ahead of him, the talented teenager comfortably controlled proceedings from lights-to-flag, as he maintained a steady gap between himself and the chasing pack. Such was his dominance, he claimed the Lotus Fastest Lap in addition to his maiden victory.
Behind him, Lewis Wherrell (JHR Developments) emerged as the driver to watch, as he produced a sublime opening lap that saw him charge through from sixth to second.
The British racer dispatched two drivers through the opening sequence of corners before then producing one of the moves of the season on the approach to the final corner, Goddards.
With Mercier and Jarrett Clark (Virtuosi Racing) both scrapping for position, Wherrell sold both drivers a dummy under braking and hugging the inside line, he powered past both of them to snatch second place.
From there, Wherrell set off after Kin Lindblom, however the lead Rookie Cup entrant was unable to close the gap and instead settled for second. Clark meanwhile, found a way past Mercier and secured a deserving third podium of the year.
American native Mercier clinched his best finish of the season in fourth, narrowly ahead of Cameron Nelson (JHR Developments) and Theo Palmer (Hitech), who completed the top six.
An almighty battle played out for the remaining spots inside the top ten and after much battling, Proudford-Nalder came out on top ahead of Ethan Lennon (Rodin Motorsport), Cole Hewetson (Xcel Motorsport) and Ethan Jeff-Hall (Argenti Motorsport).
Later in the afternoon, Proudford-Nalder kept his cool to tally his second win of the season after pole-sitter Tommy Harfield (Chris Dittmann Racing) and Jeff-Hall came together while tussling for the lead.
The race began with Harfield holding off the early challenge of Proudford-Nalder, however in doing so, the latter came under threat from Mercedes F1 Junior driver Jeff-Hall, who quickly relieved the Australian of the position.
Firmly in the wheel tracks of Harfield, Jeff-Hall showed his nose for the lead on a handful of occasions but he was forced to pause his charge as the Lotus Safety Car made the first of two appearances to neutralise proceedings after an off for debutant Alex O’Grady (Rodin Motorsport).
The critical moment in the weekend’s feature race came on the restart as Jeff-Hall and Harfield clashed at McLeans. Running side-by-side as they exited the Old Hairpin, Jeff-Hall held firm through Schwantz Curve, which in-turn put him on the inside for McLeans.
Harfield valiantly battled to remain side-by-side with Jeff-Hall but the slightest on contact sent the pair spinning into the gravel trap and ultimately out of the race, promoting the aforementioned second outing for the Lotus Safety Car.
When the dust settled, Proudford-Nalder emerged as the big beneficiary as he took on the lead of the race while Lennon and Wherrell moved up to second and third respectively.
Unfortunately, a number of other incidents on the final restart brought the race to an early finish, not that Proudford-Nalder minded as it guaranteed his second win of the season, having scooped the BRDC International Trophy at Silverstone earlier in the year.
Lennon and Wherrell filled the remaining spots on the podium while Palmer, Clark, Kin Lindblom, Nelson, Roman Felber (Fortec Motorsports), Mercier and Chiara Bättig (Hitech) completed the top ten. Further back, Haarni Sadiq (JHR Developments) clinched the Lotus Fastest Lap.
Leaving Donington Park, Rodin Motorsport’s Dries Van Langendonck holds a four-point lead over Wherrell in the Drivers’ Championship. Wherrell meanwhile has moved to the summit of the Rookie Cup standings, with Hitech now in control at the top of the Teams’ table.
Other awards at the weekend included the Pirelli Hardest Charger Award, which went to Lewis Wherrell for the lowest set of race finishes, while series newcomer Justin Di Lucia showed excellent race craft to take home the Bell Overtake Award for the most amount of overtakes across the three races.
The 2026 Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA season continues on September 5-6 as the series heads to Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire.
