Georgi Dimitrov has been announced as the second entry for JHR Developments into the 2022 ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA.
The British-Bulgarian racer made his debut in Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series in 2021, scoring three victories – one for Richardson Racing and two at Arden Motorsport following a mid-season switch – at Snetterton, Silverstone and Donington Park respectively.
The 16-year-old ended the season on a high note with five points-scoring finishes in the final seven races and will look to carry that momentum across into 2022 for a full title challenge with Steven Hunter’s JHR outfit, who enter the new campaign as the reigning champions.
Dimitrov, who has already accumulated winter mileage in the new Tatuus T-421 and gathered valuable information, not only on the chassis but the new Abarth engines and Pirelli control tyres, joins Noah Lisle at the Derbyshire team, with one further driver to be unveiled tomorrow [30 March].
“Following JHR’s results from last year and in previous years, they have a lot of experience in British F4, even with the new car. I think they’re going to offer a great package for this year and I’m excited to go ahead with the team,” said Dimitrov.
“The new car is much more different, especially with the Pirelli tyre, and lighter than last year. There’s more aero, more downforce, so you can push it harder, and it’s more to my style and liking. I can’t wait to get racing and see how it performs around other cars and to see how closely we can race. I’m sure we will have great battles with other drivers.
“I know how to win races from F4, Ginetta, and karting, so I know what it’s like to be on the top step. I can’t wait to get started with JHR and hope I can deliver more wins and trophies for them.”
JHR’s Team Principal Steven Hunter underlined his happiness at securing Dimitrov for the season ahead, and expects his team’s renowned driver development infrastructure to help push the teenager to new heights in 2022.
“We are really happy that Georgi will be joining us this season in the F4 British Championship. He is a proven race winner and at this level that is not an easy thing, especially as he switched teams during the season,” said Hunter.
“We are looking forward to getting to work with him and helping him develop this year. He knows how to run at the front of the field, be that in F4 or previous series, and no doubt given the chance again this season he will continue to thrive.”
Dimitrov’s announcement makes him the 13th confirmed driver on the grid for the 2022 season, and the second of three entries to be confirmed at JHR Developments this week.
They will join rising stars from the likes of Argenti Motorsport, Carlin, Chris Dittmann Racing, Fortec Motorsport, Hitech GP and Virtuosi Racing to contest the ten-event, 30-race season, which commences at Donington Park on 23-24 April, live on ITV4.
