JHR Developments’ Georgi Dimitrov has been awarded the inaugural Pirelli Hardest Charger Award for his overtaking exploits across the opening weekend of the 2022 ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA at Donington Park.
The British-Bulgarian racer enters the new season aiming to put together a championship bid in his sophomore year, but qualified slightly lower than expected at the foot of the top ten in a highly-competitive session on Saturday morning.
Undeterred, Dimitrov made a lightning getaway in the opening race from tenth to fifth, but was shuffled back to ninth in the closing laps, netting him a single point for one position gained in the Hardest Charger stakes.
After securing a lights-to-flag victory from reverse grid pole position on Sunday morning, the 16-year-old made another superb start in the ITV4-televised finale from tenth to sixth, and this time was able to hold firm to take his tally for positions gained over the triple header to 5.
That tied him with Virtuosi Racing’s Edward Pearson but, as per the rules, Dimitrov’s greater tally of championship points earns him the prize, a free set of tyres supplied by Pirelli for use in testing.
Another ‘Hardest Charger’ will be selected after the next event at Brands Hatch Indy on 13-15 May, and at each subsequent round of the 2022 season.
