Carlin’s Zak O’Sullivan ended the day at the top of the timesheets after setting the pace in the final F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost practice session at Silverstone.
O’Sullivan clocked a quickest time of 46.462 around the 1.6-mile National circuit, beating chief title rival Luke Browning (Fortec) to top spot by a mere 0.016 seconds and came within a whisker of the qualifying lap record once again.
The margins at the top of the field all point to another hard-fought weekend in Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series, with Alex Connor (Arden) – quickest this morning and third in the afternoon – Argenti’s Casper Stevenson and JHR’s James Hedley all separated by a remarkable 0.168s.
Hedley just beat team mate Abbi Pulling to a top-five spot, with Frederick Lubin (Arden) the leading Rookie Cup entry in seventh, only two thousandths adrift of the second JHR challenger.
Christian Mansell (Carlin) and Roman Bilinski (Arden) occupied eighth and ninth positions respectively once again; Reema Juffali (Argenti) bounced back from a difficult morning to round out the top ten, with the final Carlin entry of Matias Zagazeta 11th.
An ultra-competitive qualifying sets the stage for another enthralling weekend in Northamptonshire – the action begins at 11:05 (BST) tomorrow, ahead of the opening race at 15:50.
