Zak O’Sullivan says he enjoyed the opportunity to go up against fellow Kokoro Performance and Carlin racer Zane Maloney on the opening night of the British F4 iRacing Trophy.
O’Sullivan started his virtual F4 season in strong fashion, claiming a brace of podium finishes to put the pressure on early points leader Luke Browning as the series heads to Brands Hatch tomorrow (4th May) night.
The first came after resisting late-race pressure from Arden’s Roman Bilinski; after moving ahead into third early on, O’Sullivan was then promoted to second after a spin for Browning ahead, and successfully fended off a comeback from Bilinski to open his silverware account, the gap just 0.2 seconds at the flag.
He then emerged victorious from a thrilling three-car scrap with Maloney and Ollie Bearman in the reverse-grid contest to take the runner-up spot behind Browning.
“Race one started well for me as I maintained position in fourth,” explained O’Sullivan.
“I managed to get onto the back of Roman Bilinski in front, after around three laps of intense battling I managed to get past him. I held station in third until five laps to go, when Luke Browning had an incident that promoted me to second at the flag.”
“For race two, I started in P11 due to the partially-reversed grid. I managed to avoid some of the first lap chaos and then slowly made my way through the field to P3. I had a very good battle with fellow Kokoro Performance and Carlin driver Zane Maloney, which I definitely enjoyed!
“It’s obviously awesome to be able to race against so many drivers I know, or have raced against in real life all in one championship.”
