Matias Zagazeta’s appeal against a 1-second time penalty for gaining an unfair advantage during Round 16 of the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost has been dismissed, meaning Oliver Gray takes the victory.
The pair – racing for Phinsys by Argenti and Fortec Motorsport respectively – played out a thrilling race-long battle for the spoils around the high-speed, 2.35-mile Hampshire venue on Saturday afternoon, culminating in a contentious last-lap move by Zagazeta at the Club chicane, from which the Peruvian emerged in the race lead.
They took the chequered flag half a second apart, but the positions have been reversed as a result of Zagazeta’s time penalty. Gray therefore inherits his first victory, both in the championship and in single seaters.
Further decisions based on incidents that occurred during Round 17 will follow in due course today.
