- Dan Ticktum beats championship leader Ricky Collard to testing honours by 0.066s
- Less than a second covers top 14 EcoBoost runners in MSA Formula
KNOCKHILL 21 AUGUST, 2015 – Dan Ticktum led the way by a modest margin in Scotland today in pre-event testing for the weekend’s Ford EcoBoost-powered MSA Formula races. Sixteen-year-old Ticktum was one of only two drivers to break the 50s mark around the sinuous 1.27-mile Fife track – the other was championship leader Ricky Collard, just six-hundredths of a second behind Ticktum’s pace.
Ricky – just announced as one of the BRDC’s new intake of ‘Rising Stars’ – and his TRS Arden-prepared Mygale topped the timesheets in the first of the day’s three tests, with Ticktum two-tenths down. In the second session their positions were reversed, with Ticktum’s Fortec racer on top of the pile by 0.148s.
Ticktum went quicker still in the third and final test to edge Collard off top spot, with JHR Developments driver Sennan Fielding claiming third-best time overall, just ahead of Collard’s TRS Arden team-mate Enaam Ahmed.
Carlin’s Lando Norris, who trails Collard by just 10 points in the MSA Formula title race, was fifth quickest overall, just ahead of his team-mate and Snetterton double winner Colton Herta, who bounced back from technical issues in session one, which limited the 15-year-old American to just 11 laps of running, to move into sixth spot.
Forfar’s Sandy Mitchell was another to suffer technical gremlins in session one. The 15-year-old found seven-tenths during the day to improve his overall placing for the day to eighth. “We had some problems this morning,” said TRS Arden driver Sandy, “but we got them sorted out and session two was really like my first proper time in the car. It went well and I’m quite positive for the weekend. I hope it stays dry because that will bring the crowds but I’m not bothered about racing in the rain if I have to… I tested here in March and the car has evolved a lot since then, so there are a lot of differences to get used to.”
Ticktum’s new running mate in the Fortec team, James Pull, spent the day acclimatising himself to his new car and squad, claiming ninth-best time. Less than a second covered the top 14 today.
Official qualifying is set for 9am tomorrow ahead of a 1505 start for the championship’s 19th round. There are two further races on Sunday, the second of which will be screened live on ITV4 at 1625.
