‘Winningest’ driver, highest number of wins in a season, most consecutive victories and first person to win all three races in one meeting in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost. We hear from man of the moment, 18-year-old championship leader Jamie Caroline.
Apart from driving a British F4 car, what is your favourite buzz?
Being at a race circuit, whether it’s empty or full of 40,000 people.
Who is your favourite driver?
Lewis Hamilton. He’s the best and I’m the bandit! We’re both good in the wet and we’re both aggressive. We don’t give in or give up, but he’s the man. I’m just a yard boy during the week and doing what I love at the weekends.
What should everyone try once in their lifetime?
What are you afraid of?
My Dad when I have had a crash!
What did your teachers say about you in your school report?
Probably best not to say! I was more interested in going fast.
If you could own one Ford road car what would it be?
Mk1 Escort, Ford Lotus Cortina, a classic Mustang and a GT40. If I make it as a professional paid racing driver they would be the first four cars I would buy. I would like to turn up to a British F4 race weekend in one of those and park it outside the Ford Race Centre. It would look so cool.
What’s your favourite song?
I listen to rap music a lot, but I always listen to Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond during my warm-up before I go on track.
You can invite three people to dinner, living or dead. Who do you invite?
Kevin Hart, Will Ferrell and Lewis Hamilton. That would be a right laugh.
What’s your favourite film?
Wolf of Wall Street. Leo is great. That was another person I considered inviting to dinner. Can I add him to the guest list?
What’s the strangest question you’ve ever been asked?
Do you get bored of winning? I’ve been asked it a lot recently and it’s getting boring being asked it! I will never get tired of winning; seeing the happiness of the team and everyone cheering for me as I cross the line.
If you could have a superpower what would it be?
To be immortal would be cool. Becoming a certain age and staying there. I wouldn’t trust myself to fly. I shunt too often and I don’t want to shunt in mid-air because there’s too far to fall!
What’s the most important thing in life?
Family and happiness. If you are not happy with what you are doing then you are not doing the right thing. That’s why I need to make it as a racing driver because that’s when I’m happiest.
