30 JULY, 2018 – Sebastian Priaulx has kicked off the second half of his maiden F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost season in style with a sensational pair of second place finishes at Snetterton this weekend (28/29 July).

The 1st Central Insurance driver enjoyed a fantastic return to action following the five week summer break, with a tremendous performance seeing him bounce back from a difficult qualifying session to record the third and fourth podium finishes of his F4 career so far.

Priaulx headed into the meeting in a buoyant mood following a positive two day test at Snetterton earlier this month, and his confidence was boosted further by some tremendous pace during official Friday practice, with the Guernseyman ending the day second fastest overall.

It unfortunately didn’t go his way in qualifying on Saturday however, with Priaulx missing out on the peak of his tyres as he posted the eighth quickest time, which secured him a fourth row start for the first and third races of the weekend.

The Ravenscroft supported racer wasn’t phased by that however and a great start to the opening encounter saw him rise to fifth place on the opening lap alone, before an incident ahead on lap three secured him another position.

Right onto the tail of the podium contenders, Priaulx would benefit from further drama in front of him over the next few laps to rise to a brilliant second place, which he would maintain to the chequered flag for a richly-deserved return to the podium.

That result secured the seventeen year old fifth on the reverse grid for race two, but once again he would make immediate progress on the opening lap as he slipped into second place through the Wilson hairpin for the first time.

Priaulx got his head down and posted a run of consistently quick lap-times as he almost halved the race leader’s initial two second advantage, holding the fastest lap for the majority of the race as he edged clear of the pack behind.

While a challenge for the race win was unfortunately out of his grasp, Priaulx would complete a truly faultless performance by bringing his Arden Motorsport machine home in second, a result which capped off a fantastic day of racing.

The final race of the weekend took place on Sunday afternoon in front of a huge trackside crowd and the live ITV4 television cameras, with Priaulx determined to put on a show as he looked to battle through from eighth on the grid.

It unfortunately proved to be a bruising affair though, with a dramatic clash on the pit-straight sending him airborne briefly and leading to damage to his car. With his chances of making progress therefore hampered, a mature drive would see him pick up a seventh place finish.

That result coupled with a great points haul from his two podium finishes has maintained Priaulx’s top six championship standing heading into the next rounds of the championship at Rockingham in Corby in two weeks’ time (11/12 August).

Sebastian Priaulx: “We worked hard over the summer break to put ourselves in the best position possible for the second half of the season and it’s fantastic to see all that effort come to fruition this weekend with a return to the podium.

“Qualifying didn’t go my way, but to be able to come back from that and fight through to second in both the first two races was awesome. It all clicked for us with our race pace this weekend and I really enjoyed battling through the field.

“Race three was a shame, the early contact knocked out the tow on the car and I couldn’t do much from there. That doesn’t take away from a great weekend though and we’ve picked up a really good points haul for the championship.”

30 JULY, 2018 – Paavo Tonteri raced to a controlled, and long-awaited, maiden F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost race victory at Snetterton 300 Circuit over the weekend, 28th/29th July, to add yet another name to Double R Racing’s extensive list of single-seater race winners.

Finnish 18-year-old Tonteri, who is in his first season of car racing after a stellar karting career, converted a front-row start in round 17 at the Norfolk track on Saturday afternoon into a faultless outright win and his sixth victory of the year in the Rookie Cup class.

Team-mate Kiern Jewiss, who held a comfortable championship lead of 57 points going into the weekend, encountered a great deal of frustration with contact in round 16 and a damaged front wing in round 18 resulting in uncharacteristic 12th place finishes. Fourth in round 17, though, helped limit the damage in the title battle – his lead now reduced to 29 points.

Mexican youngster Sebastian Alvarez continued his progression with a season-best top six result in the first of the weekend’s three races on Saturday. Finishing in the top 10 again in round 17 with ninth place, he just missed the points in round 18 on Sunday with 11th position.

“It’s been a fantastic weekend for Paavo, he really deserves his first overall win – it was a great drive and a very impressive performance”, said Double R’s Anthony Hieatt, “Again, Sebastian produced some strong pace and he continues to chip away. It’s good to see him take his first top six finish.

“Obviously it wasn’t a great weekend in terms of results for Kiern, the pace was there but a couple of incidents made it hard work. Even though we dropped a few points to the competition, he’s still leading the championship and that’s the important thing going into the next round at Rockingham.”

Tonteri makes deserved British F4 breakthrough 
Jewiss headed into the weekend in typically potent form, having been quickest at the Norfolk track during both days of a two-day official test a couple of weeks prior. Indeed, in the usual pre-event test on Friday, 27th July, he again topped the times in session one, with an advantage of 0.3 seconds over his closest rivals, although Tonteri was the fastest Double R driver in session two with fourth.

In qualifying on Saturday, though, Jewiss had to settle for fourth – a mere 0.002 seconds shy of third on the race one grid – while Tonteri was seventh and Alvarez was 10th quickest. Due to a penalty for pole qualifier Patrick Pasma, though, Jewiss was elevated into third, Tonteri sixth and Alvarez ninth.

When the lights went out for the first of Saturday’s two races, Jewiss maintained third while Tonteri leapt into the top four as the cars headed to the infield and Alvarez also progressed, climbing into the top eight. On lap two, Jewiss smartly seized second and set about pressuring the race leader.

The next time around, though, Jewiss was tipped into a spin after a tangle with Dennis Hauger and although able to eventually recover he finished down in 12th position. Confirming his race winning potential, the Double R ace did post the fastest lap of the race during his recovery drive.

Tonteri profited from the lap three incident to slice past his team-mate and Hauger into second place, but his podium hopes were dashed on lap five when a moment dropped the Finn down to eighth. He did ultimately recover into the top five, though, third in the Rookie Cup.

Alvarez, enjoying a competitive run, climbed into seventh on lap four and then broke into the top six after Tonteri’s slip down the order. Following a late shake-up, when two rivals dropped back, Alvarez was leap-frogged by the recovering Tonteri and so the Mexican took the flag in sixth – fourth Rookie.

Round 17 started with Alvarez on pole position, the grid determined from the finishing order of race one but with the top six reversed, and Tonteri made it an all Double R front-row. Jewiss, of course, had to line-up 12th on the grid and with plenty to do.

Tonteri challenged Alvarez off the line and into Riches the Finn dramatically swept past around the outside to grab a lead he would never relinquish. In control by almost two seconds at the end of the opening tour, Tonteri produced a superb performance to claim his first outright win in British F4.

Although his lead was reduced to 1.2 seconds by the end of the fifth tour, Tonteri responded and into the 11th and final lap he had opened the gap to 1.5 seconds. Going on to wrap-up a superb victory, the result also marked his sixth Rookie Cup win of 2018.

“It took long enough!”, said a jovial Tonteri immediately after round 17, “It feels really good to finally win, I feel it’s been coming for a long time. We were really quick in the test before, and yesterday [Friday] we were fast too.”

Alvarez was ultimately shuffled back to seventh position on lap one and although slipping outside the top 10 on the very next tour, he battled back to finish in ninth position overall and fourth in the Rookie class – right on the tail of the two cars ahead on the drag to the line.

Unsurprisingly, Jewiss managed to undo a lot of the damage of starting down on the sixth row of the grid by carving his way through into a top four finish. Leaping into ninth on lap one, he followed championship rival Hauger as the pair both progressed through the order and on the fifth tour the Double R racer made his move to get ahead of the Norwegian – moving into the top six at that point.

Elevated into fifth the next time around, Jewiss then grabbed fourth with a great move into Riches at the start of lap seven. With over seven seconds to make up to the podium runners during the final few laps, though, there just wasn’t enough time to close the gap but fourth marked a great result.

Round 18 on Sunday began with Jewiss second on the grid but, in-keeping with his frustrating weekend, he sustained front wing damage early on and after gradually slipping further down the order he pitted for a new nose cone on lap seven. Eventually, Jewiss came home in 12th place.

From seventh on the grid, Tonteri climbed into the top five on lap one and then moved up into fourth place on the sixth tour. Edged back to fifth soon after, the Finn regained fourth on lap nine and after pressuring Johnathan Hoggard for third Tonteri made the breakthrough on the last lap to seal his second outright podium of the weekend, and third in the Rookie class, as well as fastest lap.

Alvarez began the third race of the weekend from ninth position and although bundled down to 13th place on lap one, he mounted a spirited recovery to work his way into the top 10 by lap three. Edged back down to 13th position by the fifth tour, Alvarez climbed back into 11th place – fourth Rookie.

Rockingham International Super Sportscar Circuit in Northamptonshire will host the next instalment of British F4 action just two weeks from now on 11th/12th August.

Doohan wins as rookies rule at Snetterton

  • Doohan and Hauger capitalise in tricky conditions to take one-two finish.

29 JULY, 2018 – History was made at Snetterton in round 18 of the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost as three rookies locked out the overall podium spots for the first time in the series. Jack Doohan led an Arden and Red Bull Junior Team one-two with Dennis Hauger second, while Double R Racing’s Paavo Tonteri picked up third on the last lap.

A damp Snetterton circuit set the scene for an eventful finale to the meeting as the field elected to race on slick tyres. Ford’s rising stars acquitted themselves well around the three-mile Norfolk circuit, however the tricky conditions played a pivotal role in proceedings.

Patrik Pasma (Arden) and Johnathan Hoggard (Fortec Motorsports) were forced to relinquish their leads at different stages of the race as a result of running on the damp part of the circuit. Pasma on lap three and Hoggard on lap six.

Hoggard and Doohan both picked up a pair of places on the opening lap from fourth and fifth respectively, as poleman Pasma fended off Kiern Jewiss (Double R Racing) and Ayrton Simmons (JHR Developments). Jewiss ultimately shuffled down several places and Simmons losing one position.

The race-winning move took place on lap six as a wider line through Riches on the damp part of the track opened the door for Doohan to pass Hoggard on the inside, and moments later at the same corner, Hauger squeezed past Simmons in a similar fashion.

Tonteri wasted no time in dispatching Simmons on the following lap at Nelson. Elsewhere Hauger pulled off an identical move to his team-mate to pass Hoggard at Riches, while Tonteri left it late to scythe up the inside of Hoggard on the final lap to take the final podium spot, leaving Hoggard in fourth ahead of Ayrton Simmons.

“I tried to get the best start possible, but I knew that starting on the outside meant it wouldn’t be as good other drivers,” explained race winner Doohan.

“I was watching everyone go off the track when they were in front. Patrik and Johnathan got caught out at turn one which cost them during the race and I didn’t want to make the same mistake.

“I just focused on staying cool, sticking to my marks and not letting the nerves get to me, as I made my way up the order.

“I’m not thinking about the championship at the moment. I’m just taking each race as it comes and hopefully everything else will take care of itself.”

Added Hauger: “Overall it’s been a pretty good weekend. We won race one, which was a great race in which we brought home plenty of points.

“For race two we started towards the back, but did well to get up to sixth. Then to end the weekend by starting sixth and finishing second in this race was good, especially considering the difficult track conditions.”

Commented Tonteri: “It sounds obvious, but the key to that race was to go as fast as possible without going off track and I think I did that very well.

“In the early stages quite a few moves were made when drivers were forced wide onto wet parts of the track. I worked that out and used it to my advantage.”

Fortec Motorsports’ Hampus Ericsson was in the mix for the podium for much of the race, but contact with Simmons and a later off saw the Swede retire from the race.

Although he finished eighth on the road, Manuel Sulaiman (JHR Developments) was demoted to ninth because of a 10-second time penalty for an out of position start. It promoted Fortec Motorsports’ Lucca Allen up to eighth, equalling his best result of the season as he finished behind the Arden pair of Pasma and Sebastian Priaulx. The latter doing well to remain in the running after contact with Sulaiman. Meanwhile, Jamie Sharp (Sharp Motorsport) was back in the points, 24 hours after bagging a top-10 finish in round 16.

Despite starting on the front row and getting away well, damage to his front wing in the opening exchanges left Jewiss gradually falling through the order as he put up a spirited rear-guard action in his Double R-prepared racer. He was forced to pit for a new nosecone in the closing stages, ultimately scuppering his chances of salvaging some hard-earned points and seeing his championship lead reduced to 29 points.

Maiden win for flying Finn Tonteri

28 JULY, 2018 – At the 17th time of asking Infinity Sports Management-backed rising star Paavo Tonteri claimed his maiden win in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost.

Starting from the front row, Tonteri’s daring overtake around the outside of poleman and Double R Racing team-mate Sebastian Alvarez into turn one proved decisive.

Out in front the Finn withstood pressure from Sebastian Priaulx and Ayrton Simmons, the trio matching each other for pace throughout.

“It feels really good to finally win,” said a beaming Tonteri. “It has been a long time coming.

“I had a number of different scenarios in my mind regarding how the run down to turn one would go.

“I got away quite well and managed to pull off the move around the outside which is not something that happens too often at this track.

“I built a good gap at the start and just tried to maintain it from there. I felt comfortable in the lead and was just counting the laps down.

“At the top part of the standings coming into the weekend I was the only driver without a win so now it feels so good to have that win to my name.”

Added Priaulx: “It’s always good to be on the podium twice in one day. It would have been nice to get the win in that one, but our pace was so similar. Both Paavo and Ayrton did a great job.

“At the start I got down the inside, which set me up well for turn two to pick up some places and that provided the foundation for my race.

“I would love to have a clean sweep of podiums for the weekend, but we’ll take tomorrow as it comes and try to maximise the opportunities in the race.”

Commented Simmons: “It’s another great haul of points for the championship. I got a good start and managed to get past Alvarez into the second corner.

“It was quite a relaxed race from there. I tried to push as much as I could to catch Priaulx, but the top three were evenly matched in terms of pace.

“It feels good to close the gap in the championship. The team have done an exceptional job to bounce back from the difficulties on Friday. I’m really happy with how today has gone and let’s see what we can achieve tomorrow.”

Priaulx made plenty of headway in the opening exchanges to climb up to second place from fifth, while Simmons followed him past Doohan. The latter in thick of the action for much of the race, but ultimately relegated down the order due to having to pit as a result of front wing damage. A similar fate befell JHR Developments driver Manuel Sulaiman.

Championship leader Kiern Jewiss (Double R Racing) had plenty to do from the penultimate row of the grid and rose to the challenge by carving his way up to fourth place. The pick of his overtakes a dive around the outside of Jamie Sharp (Sharp Motorsport) on lap seven at Riches.

Sharp’s opening lap was pure brilliance, as the Rochdale racer flew up the order from ninth to fourth and found himself locked in battle with the likes of Jewiss and Doohan for much of the race. However, a wide moment and spin at Wilson in the closing stages saw him miss out on what would have been his best result of the season.

Patrik Pasma got the better of Arden team-mate Dennis Hauger to take fifth. The latter bouncing back from a five-place grid penalty which left him starting the race from 11th, while Josh Skelton (JHR Developments) and Johnathan Hoggard (Fortec Motorsports) wound up seventh and eighth respectively.

Alvarez’s race was thwarted by an off on the opening lap. The Mexican doing well to salvage ninth ahead of Lucca Allen (Fortec Motorsports) who claimed his ninth top-10 finish of the season.

The final race of the weekend is set to get underway at 1430 tomorrow and will be screened live on ITV4. Poleman Pasma will want to emulate fellow flying Finn Tonteri by scoring his first win in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost.

Hauger leads Arden one-two finish at Snetterton

28 JULY, 2018 – Dennis Hauger took an excellent fourth win of the season in round 16 of the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost and led home an Arden one-two with Sebastian Priaulx finishing second.

Having started from the front row of the grid, Hauger was embroiled in the skirmish for victory from the outset, battling it out with poleman Ayrton Simmons (JHR Developments), as well as the Double R pair of Kiern Jewiss and Paavo Tonteri, plus Arden team-mates Sebastian Priaulx and Jack Doohan.

Jewiss’ bid for the win came undone on lap three when hunting down Simmons for first place, having got the better of Hauger after the latter attempted to pass Simmons on lap two.

As Jewiss sized up Simmons, there was contact with Hauger behind which sent Jewiss into a spin and down the order. It left the championship leader coming home in 12th with fastest lap his only consolation.

Simmons looked his usual calm and collected self despite pressure from Hauger behind, but dust kicked up by a car running wide hindered his vision and Red Bull Junior Hauger boldly passed Simmons for the lead. Priaulx also snuck through to take second, having expertly worked his way up through the order from seventh.

“It’s great to be back on the top step of the podium immediately after the Croft meeting when we won twice,” said Hauger.

“I think it was a good race with a lot of things happening out on track. I just had to try to stay calm.

“Simmons was slower through turn one at one point so I managed to squeeze past to take the lead.

“It’s always tough to pass Ayrton so I was pleased to take advantage when I could and take maximum points with the championship leader finishing outside the top-10.”

Added Priaulx: “Everything seemed to fall into place in that race.

“We didn’t make use of our new tyres because of where we were starting from, but I still had great race pace.

“I’m happy to be back on the podium. It’s been a while so it’s great to be fighting at the front again.

“I’ve got new tyres for the next race so I’m looking forward to what’s ahead this weekend. We can achieve more great results.”

“I was a bit unlucky once out in the lead,” explained Simmons. “Someone ran wide in turn one and kicked up a load of dust. I was the first driver to go through it and before I knew it Dennis was alongside me.

“I lost my left mirror which made things pretty interesting, but still managed to bring home good points.

“It would have been better to get the 25 points which I think we deserved, but it’s good to take 15 points out of Jewiss’ championship lead.”

Just missing out on a podium spot was Doohan, who had pulled off a brilliant move earlier in the race. The Aussie squeezing past Priaulx at Murrays. He chased down Simmons until the chequer, the pair seemingly inseparable and Simmons doing well to keep Doohan at bay.

Paavo Tonteri came home fifth and was the highest placed Double R runner, while team-mate Sebastian Alvarez followed him home in sixth to record his best result of the season ahead of Patrik Pasma who picked up several spots on his way to seventh.

Johnathan Hoggard (Fortec Motorsports) had to settle for eighth, having been shuffled down the order, with Josh Skelton (JHR Developments) in ninth and Jamie Sharp (Sharp Motorsport) making a welcome return to the top-10 for the first time since the Thruxton meeting in May.

After the race Hauger was handed a five-place grid penalty for driving in a manner incompatible with general safety, meaning an 11th place grid slot for round 17.

Manuel Sulaiman was also handed a five-place grid penalty for the same infringement and it will be taken at the next available opportunity in which the full penalty can be applied.

Simmons on pole after Pasma penalty

28 JULY, 2018 – Arden’s Patrik Pasma was quickest in qualifying at Snetterton for the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost, but Ayrton Simmons will start from pole in round 16 due to Pasma taking a 10 place grid penalty handed to him at Croft.

Pasma just got the better of JHR Developments driver Ayrton Simmons on the timesheet, both drivers putting in excellent qualifying performances. The latter looked likely to take his fourth pole of the season, but Pasma’s flyer in the closing stages just bettered his time. A lap of 1m 51.266s left the pair separated by only 0.009s at the end of proceedings.

“It wasn’t a perfect lap, but it was still good enough for P1,” said Pasma. “We now need to concentrate on the races. It’s going to be a busy day. We need to keep our heads down and work hard.

“I was second-last with about 10 minutes left on the clock, but I stayed calm. We didn’t have many laps, but the laps we did get were excellent.

“Our race pace is looking strong so I go into the races with plenty of confidence this weekend.”

“I went off on my last lap after working out where I could improve on the previous lap,” added Simmons. “I tried to go flat in turn one, but it didn’t quite work out.

“It’s an amazing result to have qualified on the front row considering where we were yesterday. We were very much on the back foot due to technical problems. The team have done fantastic work.

“Starting at the front is good, but obviously we want to win so there’s still work to be done in the race.

“There’s a little bit of a gap to Jewiss at the top of the standings, but qualifying ahead of him is a good start and now we need to make sure we outscore him in the race.”

Dennis Hauger (Arden) was quickest rookie and will start on the front row following Pasma’s penalty. Meanwhile, championship leader Kiern Jewiss (Double R Racing) had to settle for a second row grid slot, citing the windy conditions as having hampered his performance.

Jack Doohan (Arden) and Johnathan Hoggard (Fortec Motorsports) set identical lap times and completed the quintet all within four tenths of Pasma’s pole lap.

Paavo Tonteri (Double R Racing) netted sixth on the grid ahead of Friday afternoon pacesetter Sebastian Priaulx (Arden), as well as Manuel Sulaiman (JHR Developments), Sebastian Alvarez (Double R Racing) and Josh Skelton (JHR Developments) who completed the top-10.

The first race of the weekend follows at 1400 with race two at 1625.

27 JULY, 2018 – Kiern Jewiss and Sebastian Priaulx shared the spoils in free practice at Snetterton for the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost.

Jewiss recorded the fastest time of the day in the morning session, picking up from where he left off after his timesheet topping exploits in last week’s two day test. The Double R ace and championship leader proved to be the only driver capable of breaking the 1m 52s barrier and heads into the weekend full of confidence despite a technical problem curtailing his free practice two running.

“It was really good to pick up from where we left off in testing to set the quickest time this morning,” said Jewiss. “It’s very promising for the weekend ahead and let’s see what tomorrow brings.

“We were a bit unfortunate in the second session because we had a technical problem which meant we couldn’t show our true pace, but I’m still pleased with time we recorded on old tyres.

“To only be about two tenths off is very encouraging. It’s also better to have problems happen on a Friday than on a Saturday or Sunday when there are points up for grabs.

“I really enjoy this circuit with its combination of high and low speed corners. Seb is going to be up there this weekend so it should be an interesting battle between us like we had in our Ginetta Junior days.”

Priaulx looks to have come out the blocks for the second half of the season firing on all cylinders. The Arden driver followed up being second fastest in free practice one by setting the pace in a fiercely contested afternoon session.

“I’m happy to be back where I want to be at the top of the timesheets,” said Priaulx. “We had a really good session in the afternoon. We had a little off at turn one at the end, but overall I’m really happy with how the session went.

“We’ve been working really hard over the winter to make the car better and also myself. We’ve got to keep working to improve every day because it’s incredibly competitive in this championship.

“I’m not going to take anything for granted at this stage of the weekend. Everything could change tomorrow. Things can change so quickly in this sport. It’s all about keeping calm, working hard and continuously improving.

“Due to the hot weather, it’s a really high temperature in the car which is only going to add to how mentally tough this weekend is going to be around the longest circuit on the calendar. It’s all part of the challenge if you want to be on the top step of the podium.”

Priaulx led an Arden one-two-three in the afternoon with Patrik Pasma and Dennis Hauger both within two tenths of their team-mate.

However, Double R Racing’s Paavo Tonteri secured third on the combined classification courtesy of his best lap which came in the morning.

Jack Doohan (Arden) did well to finish just half a second adrift of the fastest time of the day, having been hindered by technical gremlins throughout both free practice sessions. His race pace looking particularly strong.

Manuel Sulaiman (JHR Developments) edged out Hampus Ericsson (Fortec Motorsports) by only 0.040s to take seventh in the combined classification, while Johnathan Hoggard (Fortec Motorsports) and Josh Skelton (JHR Developments) completed the top-10 ahead of JHR Developments runner Ayrton Simmons.

Fans are in for a treat tomorrow with a blockbuster day of action. Official qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 1030. The first race of the weekend follows at 1400, with round 17 of the season taking place at 1625. It’s then lights out at 1430 on Sunday for round 18 which will be screened live on ITV4.

SNETTERTON PREVIEW: Advantage Jewiss at the halfway stage

26 JULY, 2018 – It’s 15 races down, 15 to go as the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost returns this weekend (28/29 July) following the summer break. Snetterton is all set to stage the latest instalment of a scintillating season.

With five race wins, five second-place finishes and two third-place finishes, Kiern Jewiss begins the second half of the season in pole position for the UK’s most coveted single-seater title.

The Double R ace has been rapid from the outset and proved he can win from anywhere on the grid. His 2018 campaign has gained plenty of momentum and he will look to extend his 57 point lead in the standings over closest rival Ayrton Simmons.

Simmons has his sights set firmly on regaining his spot at the top of the championship however. The JHR Developments driver got his season off to a stellar start with two wins and tasted further victory at Oulton Park, but a tough weekend at Croft leaves him with a point to prove.

Dennis Hauger put together a near-perfect weekend last time out, converting two pole positions into two victories and bagged a brace of fastest laps. The Red Bull Junior Team driver looks to have found his feet in the championship and is sure to be a contender for top honours once again.

His Arden team-mate and fellow Red Bull Junior Jack Doohan also grabbed headlines at Croft, following on-track heroics which saw him carve his way through the field from the back of the grid into podium position.

Paavo Tonteri (Double R) and Patrik Pasma (Arden) go into the second half of 2018 still on the hunt for their maiden wins, but given their performances it is surely just a matter of time.

The summer break couldn’t have come soon enough for Sebastian Priaulx. His first win in the opening weekend of the season seems like a distant memory and he will have used the holidays to regroup and come back stronger with the Arden team.

The same can be said of the Fortec Motorsports camp. Johnathan Hoggard doubled up with wins in April, but since then his and the team’s season hasn’t quite reached the same heights. Hoggard, Hampus Ericsson and Lucca Allen have found themselves bringing home top-10 finishes as opposed to silverware. It will be fascinating to see if they can turn the tables and finish the season with a flourish.

Josh Skelton equalled his best result of the season just before the summer break and JHR Developments team-mate Manuel Sulaiman is on a fine points scoring run which spans the last six races. Meanwhile, Jamie Sharp and Sharp Motorsport are on the cusp of being regular top 10 finishers along with Double R’s Sebastian Alvarez.

18 JULY, 2018 – Kiern Jewiss maintained his position at the top of the timesheets by recording the fastest time on the second and final day of testing at Snetterton for the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost.

Just as the Double R racer did yesterday, he saved his best until the end of the afternoon session to have the last laugh. With less than 10 minutes left on the clock Jewiss pumped in a lap of 1m 51.726s and then proceeded to better it moments later with a 1m 51.698s.

It put him 0.272s clear of JHR Developments’ Manuel Sulaiman who put in a fine testing performance as the only other driver to break the 1m 52s barrier on the second day of running.

Morning pacesetter Paavo Tonteri (Double R Racing) wound up third on the combined classification, with Jack Doohan (Arden) fourth fastest, ahead of Arden team-mates Sebastian Priaulx and Dennis Hauger.

Ayrton Simmons’ best lap times from the morning and afternoon were within a tenth of each other, underlining the JHR Developments driver’s consistency.

Meanwhile Hampus Ericsson recorded the quickest time of any Fortec Motorsports driver during the two day test to go fifth fastest in the afternoon and eighth on the combined classification, ahead of Patrik Pasma (Arden) and team-mate Johnathan Hoggard.

Attention now turns to the upcoming rounds of the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost which will take place at Snetterton on 28/29 July.

Jewiss sets the pace in Snetterton testing

17 JULY, 2018 – The F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost got back into gear with testing at Snetterton following the summer break and it was Kiern Jewiss who set the pace.

Championship leader Jewiss showed his hand late in the afternoon to rattle off a succession of rapid laps in the 1m 51s bracket. The Double R ace the first man to break the 1m 52s barrier. His best time of 1m 51.625s put him 0.247s clear of closest challenger Dennis Hauger.

It was yet another strong showing from Hauger who wound up second fastest in both the morning and afternoon sessions.

Arden team-mate Sebastian Priaulx’s morning pacesetting time of 1m 52.230s was enough to secure him third on the combined classification, edging out Paavo Tonteri (Double R Racing) by a mere 0.026s.

The Arden pair of Jack Doohan and Patrik Pasma wound up next on the combined classification in fifth and sixth respectively, ahead of Ayrton Simmons (JHR Developments).

Late flurries from Johnathan Hoggard (Fortec Motorsports), Manuel Sulaiman (JHR Developments) and Hampus Ericsson (Fortec Motorsports) ensured top 10 spots on the timing sheet for the trio, ahead of Jamie Sharp (Sharp Motorsport) in 11th who improved upon his morning’s best time by over two seconds in the afternoon.
