27 SEPTEMBER, 2017 – Richardson Racing can today confirm that it is to launch an all-new academy aimed at helping novice drivers to take the first steps in their racing and professional driving careers.

The Richardson Performance Driver Academy, created as a joint venture between the Corby-based team and experienced instructor and precision driver Sam Maher-Loughnan, will launch following the conclusion of the team’s 2017 racing programme at Brands Hatch this coming weekend.

The RPDA will operate at the Rockingham Motor Speedway, which is just minutes away from the workshop where the team operates its Formula 4 and GT race programmes.

The Academy will offer expert tuition from ARDS licensed instructors across a range of different disciplines, with a Race Drivers’ School, Supercar Clinic, Stunt Driving School and Defensive Driving School being offered.

The Race Drivers’ School will provide novices with the skills and knowledge required to compete on-track.

Those who sign up for the School will take part in a week-long programme that will offer much more than just the ARDS test required to take part in competitive motorsport.

A combination of class-based activities and on-track assessment will be geared towards helping graduates to prepare for their first race meeting, and to ensure that they can make the most of their time on track.

Tuition will be provided in the race craft and techniques required to extract the maximum performance from their racecars, with the school continuing to provide guidance and analysis right through the novice driver period.

With the Academy open to drivers of all ages, it will also act as the first step on Richardson Racing’s new ladder programme.

Academy graduates could move into competitive racing with the team in the highly competitive F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost.

Richardson Racing confirms Harry Webb for British F4

29 MARCH, 2017 – On the back of a successful pre-season testing programme in recent weeks, Richardson Racing is pleased to confirm that it has agreed terms on a deal with Harry Webb for the 2017 F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford season.

Webb becomes the first driver to sign with Corby-based Richardson Racing for the new British F4 campaign, with discussions ongoing with a number of other drivers about the currently vacant second car.

The Norfolk racer joins the British F4 grid on the back of a stellar career in karting, which has seen him secure championship silverware at the highest levels of the sport.

Eager to take his career to the next level after making the move into car racing last year in Formula Vee, Webb has already shown his potential with a series of impressive performances during testing.

That included an eye-catching performance on his first outing in the car at Brands Hatch in mid-February, when his pace in the wet was a match for anyone else on track.

With further solid performances at Donington Park, Snetterton and Rockingham under his belt, Webb has now agreed terms on a deal that will see him compete in British F4’s all-new Ford F4 Challenge Cup.

Drivers in the Challenge Cup will compete in seven of British F4’s ten meetings, with the events at Knockhill in August and the Brands Hatch season finale at the end of September being mandatory.

Webb and the team will then nominate five other meetings in which he will compete this year – the first of which will be held at Brands Hatch this weekend as the 2017 season gets underway.

“I’m really happy we’ve been able to do this deal and without doubt, moving into British F4 is the biggest step in my career so far,” he said. “Testing has gone really well and I think I’ve improved every time we’ve been out on track, which leaves me feeling confident about the year ahead.

“Of course it won’t be easy because I’m still learning about the car and will have to learn some of the circuits, but I’m not planning to just make up the numbers and I want to run towards the front of the field.

“The more races I do and the more experience I gain, the easier that should be and there is no doubt that I’m aiming to try and win races before the season is done.”

“From the moment he first got into the car, Harry has shown real potential behind the wheel and we’re obviously delighted that we’ve been able to strike a deal,” said team boss Gwyn Richardson.

“Although he hasn’t done as much testing as some of the other drivers on the grid, he has already shown front-running pace on track and is only going to get quicker as the season goes on. With that in mind, we have no doubt that he will be challenging for podium positions over the course of the year at the very least.

“He certainly has the talent to win races and we think he could become a real force to be reckoned with in British F4.”

With drivers in the Ford F4 Challenge Cup eligible to score points towards the main championship, Webb and the team could extend their current deal to cover all ten meetings on the calendar at a later date.

TEAM NEWS: Successful launch for British F4 outfit Richardson Racing’s new Corby home

13, DECEMBER 2016 – The Richardson Racing team is hard at work preparing for the 2017 season after a successful launch of its new workshop facilities in Corby.

A special event at the new workshop – located on the Earlstrees Industrial Estate just minutes away from Rockingham Motor Speedway – was attended by a number of specially invited guests; including Councillor Julie Riley, the Mayor of Corby.

Following a brief presentation and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests were able to take a tour of the new workshop and get up close to some of the cars that the team will use for its 2017 racing programme which will include entries into the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford.

As well as revealing the workshop, the event also provided the team with the first opportunity to display a new state-of-the-art simulator that will be available to drivers as part of their package with the team.

Non-team drivers will also be able to make use of the simulator by appointment, with the facility being viewed as a key part of the team’s ongoing expansion.

The simulator will be present on Stand 6401 at next month’s Autosport International Show at the NEC in Birmingham.

“We’re delighted to be able to reveal the new workshop and simulator facility, and are pleased that so many people were able to come along to the official opening,” team principal Gwyn Richardson said. “A lot of work has gone into the workshop in recent months and it provides us with the ideal base to move forwards with our racing programmes; offering easy access to a range of local suppliers and also being close to Rockingham circuit.

“The simulator is a major part of our future plans and we are confident that it will become a valuable tool for the team over the coming years. It’s something unique that we can offer as part of the package for drivers who are racing with us next year, and will also be available to others who want to gain experience of different circuits and cars.

“Without doubt, these are very exciting times for our team and we are determined to make our mark on track in 2017.”

Having been asked to cut the ribbon during the opening ceremony, Mayor of Corby Councillor Julie Riley, revealed her pleasure at welcoming the team to the area.

“This is a very exciting new venture, and hopefully the town of Corby and businesses like Richardson Racing can move forwards together and be successful in the future,” she said. “I love what the team is doing with the new workshop facilities and am particularly impressed with the way they are working with local apprentices to give them first hand experience of motorsport. I wish them every success.”

TEAM NEWS: Richardson Racing brings curtain down on 2016 at Brands Hatch

5 OCTOBER, 2016 – The Richardson Racing team brought the curtain down on its 2016 racing programme with three solid finishes as the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford headed to Brands Hatch for the final round of the year.

The Corby-based team, which has also competed in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge this season, went into the season finale with Andrew Richardson once again at the wheel, with the 25-year-old having returned to single-seater action in the penultimate meeting of the year at Silverstone.

Qualifying 15th on the grid in challenging weather conditions around the famous Grand Prix layout of the Kent circuit, Richardson would go on to secure a hat-trick of 15th place finishes across the three races, once again showing encouraging speed behind the wheel considering his lack of track time with the Ford Eco-boost powered car.

Indeed, his quickest race lap of the weekend in race two was little more than a second away from the eventual winner.

The highlight of the weekend came in the final race live on ITV4 where Richardson found himself embroiled in a three-way battle for position with rivals Jack Martin and Jack Butel, with an impressive move on Martin at Westfield drawing widespread praise.

“I feel I’ve done a good job behind the wheel this weekend but the simple fact is that I just need more time in the car if I’m going to get the most out of it,” Andrew said. “The rest of the grid has a full season of racing behind them whereas I have one weekend, so with that in mind, to be as close to the pace as we were around a technical circuit like Brands GP was really encouraging.

“Having spent the past two years engineering the car, these two weekends have certainly been beneficial in terms of gaining an alternative insight into the car and how it behaves on track. That is something that can now look to make use of during the winter as we prepare for 2017.”

With the half-season F4 programme now at an end, team boss Gwyn Richardson revealed that work was already well underway on plans for next season, with the team hoping to expand to run multiple cars – including a possible entry into the new F4 British Championship Challenge Cup, which will run at selected events across the year.

“It was important for us to be out on track in the second half of the year and it was unfortunate that we had to amend the plans that we had,” he said. “Andrew has come in for the final two rounds and done a good job considering he has had no testing time, and now we can turn our focus to 2017.

“Whilst this season has been tough in terms of racing, it’s probably been our busiest in terms of testing potential drivers as we have had a lot of interest from people who are considering British F4 for next year.

“We are certainly confident of being able to run a multi-car programme next year and welcome the introduction of the new Challenge Cup as an initiative for those drivers who might not be able to fully commit to a ten round programme.”

The Richardson Racing team enjoyed a solid return to single-seater action as the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford season resumed at Snetterton, with rookie driver Alexandra Marinescu exceeding expectations on her debut with the team.

The 16-year-old Romanian driver headed into the weekend on the back of a busy testing programme in recent weeks, with the Corby-based team optimistic about her potential on track.

Securing 17th place on the grid in her first qualifying session, Alexandra stayed out of trouble in race one to bring her car to the finish in 15th, keeping fellow debutant Alexandra Mohnhaupt at bay and improving her lap times by nearly seven-tenths of a second.

Further improvements in lap time followed in race two as Alexandra avoided a number of clashes around her on track to secure an impressive twelfth place, putting in a mature performance to keep quicker drivers behind in the closing stages.

A 16th place finish in race three, where she also posted her fastest lap of the weekend, meant three solid finishes for the teenager and valuable experience that she will now seek to build on during the remainder of the season.

“I’m really happy with how the weekend has gone and I think it’s been better than I expected,” she said. “The result in race two was a little bit lucky because of problems for other people, but I made good progress throughout the weekend in terms of my speed and was quicker every time I went on track, which is what I wanted to do.

“I’ve certainly learned a lot this weekend from being on track with other people and seeing what they do, as it’s totally different to going round and round in testing by yourself. There are lots of little things I’ve picked up that have helped me get quicker from working with the team and from following other drivers, and I feel confident that I can get closer to the pace of the cars ahead in the races to come.”

Team boss Gwyn Richardson was also happy with Alexandra’s performance on her debut with the team.

“I think it’s been a fantastic start for Alexandra this weekend,” he said. “She has driven well, has stayed out of trouble and has made good progress, as we can see by the fact that she set her best lap on the final lap of race three.

“She had luck on her side to finish twelfth in race two and we know that was the case, but at the same time, she had to do well to keep faster drivers at bay and the experience she has gained here will set her up well for the remainder of the season.”

Richardson Racing signs Marinescu for F4 British Championship return

27 JULY, 2016 – The Richardson Racing team has confirmed today that it will return to single-seater competition for the remainder of the 2016 F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford season after agreeing terms on a deal with Romanian youngster Alexandra Marinescu.

The Corby-based team has spent the past two seasons competing in the championship under its previous guises of Formula Ford and MSA Formula, but sat out the opening half of the new campaign whilst evaluating potential drivers.

Amongst those drivers was 16-year-old Alexandra, who has now put pen-to-paper on a deal that will see her contest the remaining five meetings on the 2016 schedule, starting with this weekend’s sixth meeting of the season at Snetterton.

The first female single-seater driver from Romania, Alexandra enjoyed a successful career in karting before making the move into the Skip Barber Summer Series in the USA in 2014; where she picked up six top ten finishes in just eight starts.

Alexandra had planned to contest the 2015 MSA Formula season, only for funding issues to curtail her programme; forcing her onto the sidelines as she worked to secure the sponsorship required for a return.

In preparation for her return to competitive action, Alexandra has been hard at work behind the wheel of her new Ford Ecoboost-powered Mygale, with tests at Snetterton, Rockingham, Silverstone and Brands Hatch in recent weeks.

Now the youngster will seek to build on the progress shown during her ‘pre-season’ testing programme when the real action gets underway with three races in Norfolk this weekend, with the main aim being to bring home three solid finishes and to increase her experience.

“I’m really pleased to have agreed a deal to race in the remainder of the British F4 season and I can’t wait for this weekend,” she said. “Testing has gone well and to be honest, it’s not taken me as long to get back up to speed as I thought it would having been out of a race car for 18 months.

“I knew it wouldn’t be easy to jump in the car and be right on the pace, but I think the lap-times I have posted in testing have been encouraging when you consider the amount of experience that I have. I’ve also managed to build a good relationship with the team really quickly and we are all getting on well, which is important. They have given me a good car, and that gives me confidence going into my first race weekend.

“I know that I’m not going to be challenging for wins during the second half of this season, as that is an unrealistic aim at the moment. What I want to do is improve my performance on a race-by-race basis and get into a position where I am able to fight in the middle of the pack. If we can do that before the end of the season, then I think I will have done well.”

Team boss Gwyn Richardson admitted he had been impressed by Alexandra’s performance during her time behind the wheel and expressed confidence in the teenager’s ability to show her talents through the remainder of the year.

“Alexandra has basically had five days of testing to try to catch up with rivals who have been racing for half a season, and have done numerous tests on top of that,” he said. “With that in mind, we’re delighted with how she has done so far, especially considering the amount of experience she has.

“She is still learning and very much a work in progress, but Alexandra has driven very well in testing and shown the talent she has. Her pace has been good relative to the times that more experienced drivers have put in, and whilst Snetterton will be a tough circuit on which to make her debut, we’re confident that she’ll be competitive.

“We are under no illusions about the challenge ahead but as Alexandra’s knowledge and experience increases, we have no doubt that she’ll soon be working her way up the grid.”
