Quinn and Sargeant star in super-close Rockingham test day

25 AUGUST, 2017 – With less than a second covering the top 11 drivers in F4 British Championship testing at Rockingham, the scene is set for a thrillingly competitive weekend of Ford EcoBoost-powered action at the Northamptonshire Speedway.

TRS Arden’s Alex Quinn edged out free practice one pacesetter Logan Sargeant in an entertaining final 15 minutes of free practice two which saw much of the field take to the track for qualifying simulations.

Quinn’s best lap of 1m 18.711s came with nine minutes remaining. The 2016 British F4 Rookie Champion followed up a strong showing in the opening session during which he was pacesetter for the majority.

“It’s been a very positive day,” said Quinn of his Friday running. “The car felt really good, especially on our final run and I’ve improved throughout the day.

“Nevertheless, I’m sure we can find more time. Today’s performance has left me in a good place mentally for tomorrow.

“We tried to simulate qualifying on our final run. We made a change to the car and that helped us set the fastest lap time.

“It bodes well for qualifying and our long runs were good in the first session. Hopefully we can find the right balance between the two.”

Double R Racing’s Linus Lundqvist looked to be Quinn’s closest challenger as the clock ticked down with a 1m 18.880s lap.

However, Sargeant was the last of the front-runners to blink and chipped away at Quinn’s benchmark, ultimately recording a time that was just 0.078s shy.

Said Sargeant: “P1 in FP1 and P2 in FP2 hopefully means we’re looking good going into tomorrow.

“We still need to find that extra tenth to Alex, but I’m sure we will and we can fight for pole in qualifying.

“I expect myself to be at the top of the times everywhere, but I like this track a lot and I think we can target some excellent results weekend.”

Sargeant’s best time of the day came in the first session, a 1m 18.789s putting him a mere 0.063s clear of team-mate and championship leader Jamie Caroline. The latter’s time proving his fastest of the day and earning him third on the combined timesheets.

Title rival Oscar Piastri, bounced back from a quiet free practice one to record the fifth quickest tour of the Speedway late in the afternoon and finish two tenths adrift of Quinn.

Knockhill race winner Oliver York wound up sixth fastest having finished free practice one in fourth, with team-mate Hampus Ericsson just over a tenth of a second further back in ninth. The Fortec Motorsports duo sandwiching Ayrton Simmons (TRS Arden) and Patrik Pasma (Carlin) on the timesheets.

Manuel Sulaiman completed the top 10 for JHR Developments after a solid day’s running which saw them carefully work through their Friday programme.

TRS Arden’s Olli Caldwell missed out on the top 10 by 0.135s, but is confident of finding time around the 1.94-mile circuit, particularly in sector three. Meanwhile Jamie Sharp (Sharp Motorsport) recorded the 12th fastest time despite struggling to find the right balance with his car.

Official qualifying is set for 1020 tomorrow ahead of a 1415 start for the 22nd round of the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost. There are two further races on Sunday, the second of which will be screened live on ITV4 at 1512.

DRIVER NEWS: Rockingham success the aim for Jamie Caroline and Pirtek Racing

24 AUGUST, 2017 – Pirtek Racing’s rising star Jamie Caroline will seek to take more steps towards the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost title this weekend when the series heads to Rockingham for the eighth meeting of the year.

The talented teenager picked up his tenth win of the campaign last time out at Knockhill to maintain a lead of 45.5 points in the championship standings.

The aim now will be to try and extend that advantage in the latest three rounds of the British F4 season at a circuit where Jamie has enjoyed success in the past.

That includes a double victory during his Ginetta Junior Championship winning campaign, with the two wins at the Northamptonshire circuit helping him to eventually wrap up the title.

Rockingham was also the scene of one of Jamie’s best drives last season, when he embarked on his first year of single-seater competition.

In a performance that went viral online afterwards, Jamie fought his way from 18th on the grid in race one to finish in fourth – making up an astonishing eleven places on the opening lap alone.

This time around, Jamie will seek to maintain his impressive qualifying record to put himself at the sharp end of the field, with three solid results and a strong haul of points being the ultimate goal.

“After a difficult weekend at Snetterton, it was good to return to the top of the podium last time out at Knockhill and to take my win tally into double figures,” he said.

“I’m confident that we’ll have a strong car again at Rockingham and that we’ll be right in the mix at the sharp end of the grid.

“The ultimate goal as ever is to be on the top step of the podium this weekend, but it’s also that stage of the season when the points are the most important thing.

“I want to come away from Rockingham with a big score on the board and to at least maintain the lead I have in the standings.”

Ahead of the Rockingham weekend, Jamie was named as one of seven drivers to be granted BRDC Rising Star status.

F1 champion Lewis Hamilton is the highest profile graduate of the Rising Stars programme, which is open by invitation only to drivers aged 24 and under seeking to make a career in motorsport.

Jamie will now proudly carry the BRDC’s Rising Star emblem on his Carlin-run car through the remainder of the season.

“I’m delighted to have been named as a BRDC Rising Star,” he said. “To have been rewarded for my performances on track is fantastic and I feel very proud to now be carrying the BRDC logo on my car.”

After qualifying on Saturday 26 August at 10.20, the first of Rockingham’s three British F4 races will be at 14.15 on Saturday afternoon, with race two following at 10.05 on Sunday morning.

Race three then takes place at 15.12 and will feature as part of the BTCC’s extensive live coverage on ITV4.

DRIVER NEWS: Ten up for Jamie Caroline and Pirtek Racing at Knockhill

15 AUGUST, 2017 – Pirtek Racing’s rising star Jamie Caroline maintained his impressive lead in the F4 British Championship Certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost after storming to a tenth victory of the season at Knockhill.

Having broken the record for wins in a season last time out at Snetterton, Jamie made the trip to Scotland in confident mood, with hopes high of another strong weekend at the wheel of his Carlin-run car.

The rapid teenager secured fifth place on the grid after a closely fought qualifying session that saw the top eight drivers covered by just three tenths of a second.

Making up two places on the opening lap, Jamie moved into second spot with a fine move up the inside of Alex Quinn at the Hairpin on lap eight and would then maintain his position through to the flag; posting the fastest lap en-route to his tenth podium of the year.

The second race of the weekend later on Saturday afternoon was the twelfth round of the year that had been rescheduled from Oulton Park, with Jamie lining up on pole position.

Having maintained his lead when the lights went out, Jamie simply drove away from the pack behind and had established a lead of nearly ten seconds before the deployment of the Safety Car eradicated his advantage.

Pulling away again on the restart, Jamie controlled the race – and again set fastest lap – as he picked up his tenth victory of an already record-breaking campaign.

The grid for race three on Sunday morning saw Jamie line up in sixth but he would slip back to eighth after being forced wide on the opening lap.

Recovering well, Jamie would fight back to take sixth at the finish, outscoring his closest rival in the standings in the process.

Starting the fourth race of the weekend from row two, Jamie found himself losing places at the start due to a technical gremlin and was then forced to deal with the problem for the remainder of the race.

Despite that, he managed to set a series of quick laps and battled hard to a fifth place finish that leaves him 45.5 points clear in the title race.

“Although we could have picked up more wins this weekend, I’ve come away from it with a decent haul of points, which was the main aim,” he said. “We had the pace in the car to win race one but it was tough from where we were on the grid, and from the front in race two, I was keen to really drive home how good the car was.

“Even when the field closed up behind the Safety Car, I was confident that I would be able to stay out front and to get win number ten was fantastic.

“Although race three was a bit messy, I outscored my main rivals in the championship battle and whilst we could have fought for the win again in race four, it’s hard to complain too much about a top five finish considering that I had to manage a technical problem in the race.

“Having scored well here, I’ll look to do the same at Rockingham and keep my title challenge on track.”

Maiden British F4 win for Oliver York at Knockhill

13 AUGUST, 2017 – Oliver York took his maiden win in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost at Knockhill in Round 20 of the season and brought home Fortec Motorsports’ first win of the campaign. Carlin’s Logan Sargeant chased down York in second, while Hampus Ericsson provided fans with a thrilling display of defensive driving to hold on to the final podium place and claim another Ford F4 Challenge Cup victory for Fortec Motorsports.

Starting alongside poleman Ericsson, Andy Priaulx Sports Management star York wasted no time in finding a way past his team-mate. Despite make an excellent getaway, Ericsson was immediately under pressure after turn one. York didn’t need any invitation when the first overtaking opportunity presented itself, scything up the inside of Ericsson to take the lead.

It immediately put Ericsson into the clutches of Sargeant and as the two jostled for second, York set about trying to break away from the field.

Sargeant eventually made a move stick on lap nine after a Safety Car period and despite the American recording the fastest lap on the final tour of the 1.27-mile Fife track, York had enough in hand to masterfully take the first single-seater win of his career.

“It’s a big relief to get this first win,” said race winner York. “It’s been a long season and we’ve finally done it. I’ve worked so hard to achieve this.”

“My game plan was to get past Hampus early on and that’s exactly what I did. I saw Hampus get a bad run out of the chicane and I knew that was my chance to strike.

“From then on I tried to pull away. Hampus is good at defending so that helped me create a gap.

“It’s fantastic for the team that Hampus got third and really pleasing to see that today we had the speed to win because yesterday that didn’t quite look to be the case.

“The team have done a great job. The car has improved all weekend and we’ve really honed the setup.“

“It was another good race for us, bringing home plenty of championship points with my rivals behind me,” commented Sargeant.

“It took me a little longer than I would have liked to pass Hampus which gave Oliver the chance to get away.

“The move on Hampus was tight, but fair. I sent it up his inside and he was mature enough to give me just enough room.

“We got fastest lap and we clearly had the speed out there, so next time hopefully we can go one better.

“It’s great to be consistently on the podium and now we need to take that final step to win. We’re pushing hard and we’ll get there.”

The excitement for Ericsson was from over after being passed by Sargeant. The Swede immediately had to contend with Alex Quinn, Ayrton Simmons and Jamie Caroline. The latter having been on the back foot after running wide and off the track on the exit of Taylor’s Hairpin on the opening lap which cost him several places.

Ericsson refused to buckle under the pressure, doggedly keeping Quinn at bay, with Caroline and Simmons looming to pick up the pieces while swapping positions repeatedly in the closing stages.

“It feels so good to be on the podium and get another Ford F4 Challenge Cup win. Oliver was so fast too so it’s a fantastic result for the team.

“I got a great start, but Oliver found a way through. Before the race we discussed with the team our plan for the race and we agreed not to fight each other hard to maximise the chances of a strong result for Fortec.

“I then had Sargeant attacking me which was tough. I did my best to keep him behind, but he was faster.

“Then I had to defend from the top guys in the championship with Quinn, Simmons and Caroline behind me. It was really intense, but a lot of fun. I worked so hard to get on the podium.”

Linus Lundqvist’s luckless weekend continued, despite yet another fine opening lap which saw him make up two places from eighth to get past title rivals Caroline and Oscar Piastri.

Contact with Piastri on the exit of Taylor’s Hairpin saw Lundqvist spin out of the race on lap six, Piastri suffer front wing damage and the deployment of the Safety Car.

The latter did well to nurse his car to the finish, being subject to an exhilarating two-pronged attack from Caroline and Richardson Racing’s Harry Webb who dived either side of the Aussie to climb up to sixth and seventh.

Lucca Allen was another casualty on lap six. Contact with JHR Developments’ Manuel Sulaiman resulting in a trip to the barrier for the Falcon Motorsport driver having been running in 14th, while Sulaiman just missed out on a point score later in the race finishing in 11th.

Patrik Pasma soared up through the order from 16th to finish in the points in 10th, behind Double R’s Karl Massaad.

Lights go out for the final race of the weekend this afternoon at 1540 which will be televised live on ITV4.

Perfect 10 for Caroline in British F4 at Knockhill

12 AUGUST, 2017 – Jamie Caroline extended his advantage at the top of the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost standings by winning the rescheduled Round 12 race from Oulton Park at Knockhill. He was followed home by team-mate Logan Sargeant who ensured Carlin recorded their second one-two finish of the campaign.

A lightning getaway from pole saw the Pirtek Racing-backed rising star unchallenged into turn one and proceed to execute a textbook race on the way to his 10th Ford EcoBoost-powered victory of 2017.

With clear air in front of him the 18-year-old unleashed his prodigious pace around the 1.27-mile Fife track, extending his margin over the field at a formidable rate. Not even a Safety Car period for the stricken car of team-mate Patrick Pasma, which wiped out Caroline’s 9.3 second lead on lap 11, could spoil the championship leader’s party.

He mastered the restart and had enough in hand to keep Sargeant at bay, recording the fastest lap of the race on the very last lap.

“We were 9.3 seconds clear before the Safety Car,” said Caroline. “It’s a shame it came out in a way because if it hadn’t it would have made the win even easier. I wanted to get to the 10 second mark to tie in with my 10th victory this season.

“It’s great to get this win though and to get fastest lap too. I got another lightning start. I do a lot of work on reactions in my warm-up and I think that helps a lot.

“I wasn’t too worried when the field closed up because of the Safety Car. I knew I was quicker and consistent so I was confident I could comfortably bring the win home.”

From third on the grid Sargeant put second place man Oscar Piastri under immense pressure from the outset, pulling off an intelligent move on the way to the chicane several laps into the race.

Not for the first time this season the F4 UAE graduates provided a thrilling squabble, although Piastri dropped down the order on lap eight due to a technical gremlin.

“I got off the line well and then I was fighting with Piastri for the first couple of laps,” explained Sargeant. “I managed to get around him and then I tried to chase down Jamie, but he had already built a big gap while we were fighting.

“The Safety Car offered me a bit of hope for the win. I got a good restart, but Jamie was just a little bit quicker. He’s my team-mate so I’ll take a look at the data tonight and see what he’s doing to help me go quicker tomorrow.

“I got up the inside of Piastri heading towards the chicane and that basically put him in a positon where he had to back off because we weren’t going to both make the corner. It was a smart move from me and important for Carlin as it secured us a one-two finish.”

Piastri’s problems promoted Double R Racing’s Karl Massaad to the podium, who had already profited from his team-mate Linus Lundqvist’s demise earlier in the race.

It was the first time Massaad had been on the podium since the Thruxton meeting in May. The Lebanese karting champion kept his cool in tricky conditions to return to the rostrum.

“I’m really happy to be back on the podium,” commented Massaad. “Snetterton wasn’t a great weekend for me so it’s nice to bounce back with a podium place.

“To be honest this weekend wasn’t looking too good, especially after qualifying when I pushed a little too hard and went off.

“I stayed calm out there and tried not to do any mistakes while others did around me. That’s how I made my way up the order, but importantly I had the pace to stay third.

“To be on the podium is fantastic, but I want to be on the top step and I’m working so hard to achieve that.”

As was the case in the earlier race Lundqvist was aggressive from the start and soon found himself tucked up underneath the rear wing of Quinn. He jinked from left to right repeatedly to try to force the Cornish ace into a mistake, but couldn’t find a way through.

Lundqvist wouldn’t relent however, and pulled off a sublime move around the outside of Quinn at Taylor’s Hairpin. However, his race came undone when going off track at turn one after running side by side with Piastri.

The Swede regrouped and embarked on a comeback through the field, but was later forced to retire due to overheating as a result of the off track excursion. Quinn didn’t fare much better, forced to retire on lap five due to a mechanical problem.

Just missing out on a podium spot was Fortec Motorsports’ Oliver York who had a storming race to make his way up the order from 10th on the grid. It also saw him take his eighth and final win in the Ford F4 Challenge Cup.

The talented teenager was allowed to fight for Class honours courtesy of this being the Round 12 race which should have taken place earlier in the year at Oulton Park when York was eligible to compete in the Class. The win means he was able to extend his advantage at the top of the standings by seven points.

Harry Webb looked a contender for fourth and the Challenge Cup win only for front wing damage to hinder his prospects. The Richardson Racing driver defended valiantly in the closing stages despite the damage and still salvaged a seventh place finish; behind Ayrton Simmons in fifth who made up several places from eighth on the grid and Piastri in sixth.

Jacky Liu rounded off a landmark day for GW Motorsport. Just hours after the team’s first top 10 finish, Liu followed it up with an eighth place finish to score his first points of the campaign.

Said an ecstatic GW Motorsport team boss Gary Ward: “I’m really happy with both our drivers today. Both of them qualified well. Sam coming into the team has made Jacky up his game and they are working so well together.

“To get two top 10 finishes today and these points means a lot and is so deserved following all the hard work.

Jamie Sharp was back in the points for Sharp Motorsport and despite venturing off track Lucas Alecco Roy doggedly persevered to bring home 10th and take the final point for Carlin.

Round 20 of the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost is scheduled for 1015 tomorrow, with Round 21 set to start at 1540 and to be televised live on ITV4.

11 AUGUST, 2017 – F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost drivers faced an array of weather conditions in testing at Knockhill ahead of qualifying and four races this weekend. With rain affecting the first and second sessions it relented late in the afternoon to provide valuable dry running and it was TRS Arden’s Alex Quinn who laid down a marker heading into the weekend by posting the quickest time.

The Cornish racer, who already has one British F4 victory to his name at Knockhill, toured the 1.27-mile Fife track 0.086s faster than the race lap record set by Luis Leeds last year with a time of 49.728s.

Quinn underlined his strength by rattling off multiple laps below the 50-second mark, indicating that the 2016 British F4 Rookie Champion is certainly not going to lack race pace this weekend. This followed excelling in the wet second session when finishing second only to Jamie Caroline.

“Even though we weren’t quickest in the first session, we were quite a lot quicker than most people and that was with old tyres so that was a really positive start to the day,” explained Quinn.

“More rain came for the second session and I love driving in the wet, especially around this track. It’s absolutely awesome. It’s by far my favourite track on the calendar.

“All four TRS Arden drivers have shown really good pace today and that’s excellent because we can all learn from each other to go even faster.

“In the last session the car felt really good so we’re in a strong place, but it’s not going to be easy this weekend. The times are really close. Importantly for me I was consistently in the 49-second bracket which underlines that we’ve got good race pace too.”

With times tumbling in free practice three as track conditions improved and drivers grew in confidence, championship leader Caroline was just 0.070s adrift of Quinn on his best lap. It rounded off a strong day for the Carlin driver who looked back to his exuberant self on track after a quiet weekend by his standards last time out at Snetterton.

Caroline shone in the second session when he stormed his way to the top of the times in the worst of the conditions by a margin of over three tenths of a second.

“We scrubbed our wet tyres when the track was dry so everyone got more running in the dry on slicks this morning,” said Caroline. “I set my best time in that session on slicks, but when it was raining so everyone else got the chance to get four more laps worth of heat in their tyres.

“I really enjoy driving around this circuit. I love Knockhill. Even though I was quickest in FP2 on old wet tyres, we’ve been struggling with some technical niggles so I’m not completely happy because it’s hindering our ability to be consistent.

“Handling wise things are a lot better compared to Snetterton and we worked on the balance in FP3. The car has got a great front end on it which is nice to have because you can throw it into the corner. It will oversteer a little and rotate into the corner and then as you pick the throttle up you can control it thanks to the drivability of the Ford EcoBoost engine to get a good exit. In FP3 we were right up there in the dry and I’m confident we can have a really strong weekend.

“Turn one and the chicane is where there’s a lot of time to be made. They will be a big differentiator between drivers. The last corner is interesting here as it’s a hairpin and I’m really not a fan of hairpins! It’s an important corner though because it provides the only real overtaking opportunity on the track.”

Quinn’s team-mate Ayrton Simmons was fifth fastest overall and is one to watch having featured at the sharp end of the times throughout the day; not least in free practice one when he was fastest after an excellent run on slick tyres early in the session before rain forced the field onto wets.

“The first session was really good for us to be fourth tenths quicker than everyone in tricky conditions,” said morning pacesetter Simmons. “The second session wasn’t too bad either to be third quickest on old tyres in the rain.

“I got a little confused in the dry final session with my references when it came to braking and turning points. I did get to grips with them by the end of the session, setting my best time on my final lap and that was when my tyres were past their best. The car has been really good so hopefully I can put it on pole.”

Logan Sargeant was another on front-running pace and was the only driver other than Quinn and Caroline to break the 50-second barrier, having not finished any lower than fifth in the preceding sessions.

Title contender Linus Lundqvist was quickest of the Double R Racing charges with the fourth best time both in the wet and the dry. Team-mate Karl Massaad fared better in the wet in session two ending up tenth, compared to the dry final session when he had to settle for 13th.

Title rival Oscar Piastri took time to acclimatise to the Fife track having never raced around the circuit before and grew in confidence as the day progressed. The Aussie ended up sixth overall and less than half a second off P1.

Johnathan Hoggard impressed in what is only his second British F4 meeting, just 0.026s behind Piastri in free practice three having been second quickest in free practice one and fifth in the second session. Fortec Motorsports’ newest addition proved to be their top performer with Oliver York ninth and Hampus Ericsson 12th.

Patrik Pasma found himself sandwiched on the timesheet by Hoggard and York in eighth. The Finn finished inside the top 10 in every session and is clearly enjoying his Knockhill experience more than his time at Snetterton a fortnight ago.

Olli Caldwell broke into the top 10 in the final session, more at ease in the dry conditions as opposed to the wet. The TRS Arden driver ended the day as quickest Ford F4 Challenge Cup runner with rival Harry Webb (Richardson Racing) just 0.032s behind him in 11th ahead of Ericsson and Lucca Allen (Falcon Motorsport) in 18th.

Official qualifying is set for 1130 tomorrow ahead of a 1430 start for Round 19 of the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost. The lights will go out for the second race of the weekend (the rescheduled Round 12) at 1710. There are two further races on Sunday, the second of which will be screened live on ITV4 at 1540.

DRIVER NEWS: Strong points the aim for Jamie Caroline and Pirtek Racing in Scotland

10 AUGUST, 2017 – Pirtek Racing’s rising star Jamie Caroline has his sights firmly fixed on a big points haul this weekend as the F4 British Championship Certified by FIA – Powered by Ford EcoBoost heads for Knockhill this weekend for the seventh meeting of the year.

Jamie makes the long trip to Scotland sitting pretty at the top of the standings having secured a record-breaking ninth win of the season last time out at Snetterton.

It means the rapid teenager holds a lead of 46.5 points over the chasing pack heading into a busy weekend that will see the British F4 field in action four times.

Jamie has enjoyed success at Knockhill in the past, including a race winning performance en-route to the Ginetta Junior Championship title, and showed impressive pace on track twelve months – albeit without picking up the results that his speed deserved.

Front-running results are very much the aim this time around as Jamie looks to maintain his championship lead, with a strong qualifying performance being key to his chances of success.

Jamie already knows he will start one of the four races at Knockhill from pole position, with the circuit playing host to round 12 of the season – which was due to take place at Oulton Park before being postponed due to time constraints.

“Although results didn’t go my way last season, I showed strong pace at Knockhill which leaves me feeling confident going into the weekend ahead,” he said. “The circuit is one of the most spectacular on the calendar and it’s a really rewarding feeling when you hook up a lap and get into the groove.

“Last year I showed that that is possible to overtake at Knockhill but it isn’t easy, so qualifying towards the front of the grid will be particularly important this weekend. The fact I know I’m already starting at the front for one race is a bonus before we even take to the track, and if I can get near the sharp end of the grid for the other races, we’ll be in a good position.

“I still have a good lead in the standings but like I’ve said before, I can’t relax and take it easy because that’s when mistakes will creep in. With four races this weekend there are good points to be scored, and that’s my aim.”

After qualifying on Saturday 12 August at 11.30, the first of Knockhill’s three British F4 races will be at 14.30 on Saturday afternoon, with race two following at 10.15 on Sunday morning. Race three then takes place at 15.40 and will feature as part of the BTCC’s extensive live coverage on ITV4.

Knockhill also plays host to Round 12 of the season, which was postponed at Oulton Park, at 17.10 at Saturday afternoon.

2 AUGUST, 2017 – Young gun Jamie Caroline secured his place in series history with a ninth win of the year as the F4 British Championship Certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost season resumed at Snetterton.

Caroline went into the weekend looking to consolidate his lead at the head of the championship standings having enjoyed a fine campaign to date at the wheel of his Carlin-run car.

Qualifying saw Caroline post the ninth quickest time, with the team then working to make a series of changes to his car ahead of the opening race of the weekend.

Going quicker in race one than he had in qualifying, Caroline crossed the line in eighth place to secure a front row start for race two thanks to the reverse grid draw.

Moving into the lead at the start, Jamie was able to control that second race from the front despite the deployment of the Safety Car mid-way through backing up the field behind, with the teenager also picking up the fastest lap as he secured win number nine of the year.

That means Caroline moved ahead of 2015 champion Lando Norris when it comes to wins in a year, with little more than half of the season run.

Seventh place in the final race means Caroline leaves Snetterton with a 46.5 point lead in the standings ahead of the next round of the season at Knockhill, where the British F4 field will be in action no fewer than four times.

That includes the race that was postponed due to time constraints at Oulton Park earlier in the year.

“Qualifying was really tough this weekend and it left us with work to do in the races,” he said. “We made changes to the car ahead of the opening race and it was much improved, but my focus was on making sure we picked up a good position on the grid for race two.

“Having got a place on the front row, I knew I had the chance to take the victory and when I got into first spot, it was all about staying in control and just maintaining the position out front; even when the Safety Car in.

“I’d hoped to get more out of race three but we put more points on the board which is what we need to do every time we go out. We can now look forward to Knockhill and hopefully we can challenge at the front in what is going to be a busy weekend on track.”

27 JULY, 2017 – Pirtek Racing’s rising star Jamie Caroline will seek to consolidate his advantage in the F4 British Championship Certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost when the series heads for Snetterton this weekend for the sixth meeting of the year.

The talented teenager has been the stand-out driver on the grid this season thanks to a series of stunning performances at the wheel of his Carlin-run car, with eight victories in 14 starts giving him a 67.5 point lead in the standings.

Caroline heads for the longest circuit on the calendar looking to bounce back to form after a challenging outing at Croft prior to the summer break, where he had to settle for a best finish of fourth spot.

Having been on the pace during testing at Snetterton earlier in the year, Caroline will be seek to return to the podium positions to maintain his current lead, whilst also chasing another British F4 record.

Should Caroline – who became the first driver to take all three wins on a weekend at Thruxton – add a ninth victory of the season this weekend, he would surpass the record for wins in a year that he currently shares with 2015 champion Lando Norris.

“After a difficult weekend at Croft, the summer break seems to have gone on for ages and I can’t wait to get back in the car at Snetterton,” he said. “It’s a circuit where I’ve been quick in the past, and hopefully we can have a strong showing this weekend and challenge for more silverware to kick-start the second half of the year.

“There’s no point in doing something stupid with the advantage we have in the standings, but I also can’t relax too much and get complacent as that is when mistakes start to creep in.

“I’m going to take the same approach I have done all year and focus on myself, and if we can qualify well and be in the mix towards the front, then we’ll be in the best position to maintain the lead that we’ve worked so hard to build.”

After qualifying on Saturday 29 July at 10.30, the first of three British F4 races will be at 14.00 later that day, with race two following at 17.15. Race three then takes place on Sunday at 14.50

British F4 brings single-seater magic to Ford’s 50 years of Dunton Technical Centre celebrations

26 JULY, 2017 – The F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost played a starring role at Ford’s 50 years of Dunton Technical Centre celebrations, with three of this year’s title contenders Jamie Caroline, Oscar Piastri and Ayrton Simmons attending the event.

From thrilling test track rides to precision driving demonstrations and live music; thousands of people revelled in celebrations which saw a showcase of the many achievements and capabilities of the Ford Dunton Technical Centre, as well as the promotion of the great relationships Ford has with local organisations and charities.

The F4 British Championship brought a touch of single-seater magic to the event with the British F4 show car and Virtual Reality Experience proving a real hit, pulling in crowds throughout the day.

“It’s been great to see where the magic happens when it comes to the development of the Ford EcoBoost technology that goes into our cars and to meet the people who have worked so hard to provide us with a fantastic car that we can go racing with,” said Carlin’s Jamie Caroline. “Thanks to them, Ford has been able to build a winning reputation on the track and the road.”

Caroline, Piastri and Simmons starred as they met event-goers, signed autographs and took to the main stage to provide a fascinating insight into life as motorsport’s future stars in the UK’s leading junior single-seater series.

“Events like this give people who may not have been to one of our race weekends the chance to really get a better understanding of what we as drivers actually do and what the championship is about,” commented TRS Arden’s Ayrton Simmons.

“They’ve been able to get up close and personal with the race car and step into our shoes as a driver with the British F4 Virtual Reality Experience.”

“It was great to spend time at Dunton Technical Centre and give something back to Ford employees and their families,” added team-mate Oscar Piastri.

“Days like this are good fun for us as drivers. They are something different from our usual routine at race weekends. It’s been a great experience.

“The hot weather was a bonus. I’m an Aussie so plenty of sunshine is perfect for me, so big thanks to Ford for making that happen and even bigger thanks for inviting us to Dunton to be part of such a special day. I hope we’ll get to visit again soon.”

As the celebrations concluded, there was only one word on the drivers’ lips after they had snuck behind the wheel of the Ford Performance Mustang GT4 to sample the roar of its 5.2L V8 racing engine and draw a crowd in record time.

Explained an ecstatic Caroline: “There’s only one word I could really use to describe the day and that’s ‘Mustang’! I finally got be in the driver’s seat and rev a Mustang. I would rather do that than win the lottery. I loved it. To everyone at Ford, please can I have one? You’ve made an incredible car.”

Added Simmons: “The event has been truly amazing and I want to thank Ford for such a fantastic opportunity. As Jamie said, ‘Mustang’ is probably the one word I would use to sum it up for us as drivers. Getting in that driver’s seat was something I will never forget.”
