- Skelton supreme in the dry, Horsten masters the wet weather conditions.
- Championship protagonists down the order in Friday’s running.
- Busy weekend of action ahead – qualifying and two races to follow on Saturday.
Josh Skelton and Bart Horsten split the honours in differing conditions during practice for this weekend’s F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost triple-header at Thruxton.
It was JHR’s Skelton that reigned supreme in dry conditions in the morning, bolting on a fresh set of Hankook rubber and posting a best lap time of 1:13.661s around the 2.7-mile Hampshire circuit to eclipse local racer Louis Foster (Double R) by nearly half a second.
Thruxton – widely hailed as the UK’s fastest circuit – is a huge challenge at the best of times, even more so after significant rainfall over the lunch period forced the Ford EcoBoost-powered field on to wet tyres for the afternoon’s running.
Horsten mastered the conditions, putting his Red Arrow just clear of JHR’s Carter Williams by a little under two tenths, his benchmark a 1:22.230s.
Williams also posted the third best overall time of the day, just ahead of Snetterton race-winner Tommy Foster (Arden) and the third JHR car of Alex Walker, the Derbyshire-based outfit seemingly in good form ahead of the weekend’s action.
Alex Connor (Arden) and Luke Browning (Richardson Racing) came next, with the current top two in the championship standings – Double R’s Sebastian Alvarez and leader Zane Maloney (Carlin), only eighth and ninth respectively.
Horsten’s effort in the morning session earnt him the tenth quickest time of the day overall, the field rounded out by Fortec’s Roberto Faria, Double R’s Reema Juffali and Mariano Martinez (also Fortec).
The weekend continues with a busy day of action on Saturday – qualifying and the opening two races – with the ITV4-televised final race in Hampshire scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
