Sebastian Alvarez storms to double pole at Snetterton

  • Alvarez storms to double pole position as Ford’s winning formula returns at Snetterton.
  • Super-competitive session, points leader Maloney third after tough qualifying.
  • Opening race scheduled to get underway at 16:25 BST.

Double R Racing’s Sebastian Alvarez sent a warning to the rest of the field with an impressive double pole position as the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost returned to competition action at Snetterton.

Alvarez – currently third in the standings behind team-mate Louis Foster and Carlin’s Zane Maloney – clocked a best time of 1:51.242s to edge out JHR Developments’ Carter Williams at the front of the field.

Converting top spot into victory this afternoon around the 2.99-mile Norfolk circuit could prove a crucial step if the Mexican ace is to cut the deficit to Maloney in the standings, the gap between the pair currently 77 markers.

“I’m extremely pleased with my performance this morning,” commented Alvarez.

“It’s a team effort, as ever, and so now it’s just down to me to translate our success into points this afternoon. Thanks to everybody at Double R Racing for all their hard work.”

It proved to be an uncharacteristically tough session for Maloney, but the Carlin racer lines up third regardless after improving his time as the session went on.

The leading Arden Motorsport duo of Bart Horsten and Tommy Foster line up around Maloney in fourth and fifth respectively, with the Australian joining Alvarez on the front row for the final race on Sunday.

On a weekend that sees Fortec Motorsport chase a 900th podium finish in competitive motorsport, Roberto Faria boosted his chances of being the man to take the honour, putting himself sixth for the opening contest – and fourth for Race 3.

Josh Skelton (JHR) and Louis Foster (Double R) could only manage seventh and eighth in a closely-fought session – an extra three tenths would have put both on the second row – with Alex Connor (Arden) and Richardson Racing’s Luke Browning closing out the top ten.

The field is completed by the second Fortec machine of Mariano Martinez, Double R’s Reema Juffali and JHR’s Alex Walker.

The opening race at Snetterton is scheduled to get underway at 16:25 BST.
