Roman Bilinski has praised the team spirit among Arden Motorsport’s 2020 challengers and believes the trio are pushing each other to their best in preparation for the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost season to get underway.
The 15-year old will step up into Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series with the Red Arrows this season, partnering second-year driver Alex Connor and karting graduate Frederick Lubin at Garry Horner’s outfit.
His graduation to single seaters comes after a positive season in Ginetta Juniors – including a podium at Snetterton – as well as several top-ten finishes.
Reflecting on the winter to date as a whole, Bilinski is on a better footing now with the Mygale M14-F4 car used in the series, and says Arden’s latest intake have established a good working partnership.
“It’s been really good,” he explained.
“We stopped Ginetta Juniors early to start testing in F4, which has been going really well with Arden. It’s been a few months now, so just getting to know the car, obviously Freddy [Lubin] and Alex [Connor] have been pushing me which has been really good, so we’ve just been getting faster each time we go out, really.”
Bilinski will also come up against a number of his former Ginetta rivals this campaign, with champion James Hedley, runner-up Zak O’Sullivan and fellow front-runner Casper Stevenson also making the switch to F4.
“I guess it’s quite useful, knowing how the other drivers work,” says Bilinski.
“Obviously learning things from them in Ginetta Juniors and translating that to F4 will be really useful. But also just little tips from learning how they drive in certain tracks, or different corners, how they defend and now I can use that in F4.”
His aim is similar to that of his peers – championship success – but Bilinski stressed the need for a pragmatic approach to the 10-event, 30-race calendar.
“I guess we’re all in it to win the championship, really. But we’ll see how it goes, you need to take it round-by-round and take it as it comes, really. I think a championship would be great.”
The positive relationship between Bilinski, Connor and Lubin has been evident in pre-season, and the former says his team mates have helped push him to raise his level before the season begins.
“It’s going really well. We all clicked straight away, we’re getting on really well and we’re pushing each other, so we’re as quick as possible when it gets to racing.”
The start of the 2020 season is currently delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic; further updates will be provided as/when they become available.
