Roberto Faria remains with Fortec Motorsport for 2020 title push

  • Brazilian ace will return to F4 British Championship action in 2020 with series stalwarts Fortec Motorsport.
  • Faria aiming for overall silverware next campaign, with a strong winter testing programme – plus a year of experience – set to pay dividends.
  • Battle for Vice-Champion honours in the Rookie Cup set for thrilling conclusion – Faria leads Alex Connor by 15.5 points heading to Brands Hatch this weekend.

Roberto Faria will return to the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost in 2020 after agreeing a deal to stay with Fortec Motorsport.

The Brazilian graduated into Britain’s FIA-sanctioned Formula 4 category from karting in 2019, registering an impressive 20 points finishes, including a best race result of fourth in the middle contest at Silverstone a fortnight ago.

Faria also has 20 trips to the Rookie Cup podium on his CV from his first season of single-seater racing and heads into the Brands Hatch finale this weekend [12-13 October] 15.5 points clear of Arden’s Alex Connor in a thrilling clash for the Vice-Champion class honours.

He currently sits 11th overall and needs just 14 points in Kent this weekend to overhaul Joe Turney and claim a top-ten finish in the standings.

The deal to re-join Richard Dutton’s Fortec outfit gives Faria an early opportunity to begin preparation ahead of the new season, but also guarantees another year racing in front of capacity crowds at ten events on the UK’s most challenging circuits, as well as ITV Sport’s television cameras.

Looking to the challenge ahead, Faria says his aim now is to come back fighting at the front, with a first trip to the overall podium clearly not far off.

“I’m really pleased to be re-joining Fortec Motorsport in the F4 British Championship for 2020,” said Faria.

“This season has been a really positive introduction to single-seater racing for me; we’ve been in the points most races, which isn’t easy in a series as competitive as this, and to have so many Rookie Cup podiums shows we’ve done well versus other drivers in a similar position.

“Now, with another winter testing programme ahead and a whole year of experience with the cars, the circuits and the racing behind me, I’m confident we can keep pushing and have a strong push to be fighting at the front next season.”

Fortec’s F4 Team Manager Oliver Dutton is pleased to have Faria return to the Daventry-based outfit for another year, underlining his belief the Brazilian will be a force to be reckoned with in 2020.

“Watching Roberto’s progress throughout the season has been fantastic, so I’m really pleased we’ll have the opportunity to build on that going into 2020,” said Dutton.

“The transition from karting to single-seaters is a big step, but he’s adapted well and I think the record speaks for itself – twenty points finishes, twenty class podiums.

“We’re looking forward to ending the season on a high at Brands Hatch this weekend and then pushing on with our winter testing programme ready for the new season.”
