With just a few days to go until the 2020 F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost title decider at Brands Hatch (Indy), we asked some of the media covering the championship how they see the season-concluding triple header playing out.
Zak O’Sullivan arrives at the 1.19-mile Kent circuit tied level on points with Luke Browning, the Carlin racer only ahead by virtue of countback, having eight race victories to his name versus Browning’s six.
Argenti Motorsport’s Casper Stevenson also remains mathematically in contention for the crown, but will need a mistake from the top two ahead, plus a continuation of his recent podium-scoring form, to close the gap at this late stage.
Here’s what the experts had to say ahead of the season finale:
Stephen Lickorish – Autosport
“It couldn’t be any closer! While Luke Browning and Zak O’Sullivan head to Brands Hatch tied on points, it’s O’Sullivan that goes to Kent with the clear momentum – and he will be tough to beat.
“Just one victory for Browning since the end of August will count against him but he’ll still do everything he can to win when it really matters.”
Richard John Neil – ITV Sport
“Well, we get asked at the start of each season who we think will win. I was captured on camera at the media day saying Luke Browning.
“Given the chance again to make a comment prior to the final weekend’s action, I should not really do a u-turn (I clearly won’t make it in politics) and I still think Luke will be there.
“Of course, whoever wins will have earned it – If Zak O’Sullivan gets it then what an acheivement in his first season of single seaters and to have cut the gap over the last few events. For Luke, if he takes the title then it will have shown great character having responded to that pressure. Here’s looking forward to three terrific races at Brands!”
Alex Wood – Momentum Social
“It truly has been yet another unforgettable season of racing this year. Unpredictable as always, just as Luke looked to have one hand on the trophy, Zak and Casper have managed to reign him in to provide us with a thrilling title decider at Brands Hatch.
“If I had to give my prediction, I believe the 2020 champion will be Browning, but I think it will go down to the last lap!”
