McKenzy Cresswell scores crucial double pole position at Croft

JHR Developments’ McKenzy Cresswell gave his title hopes a much-needed boost with a double pole position in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost at Croft.

The 15-year-old trailed team-mate and current points leader Matthew Rees by a mere three thousandths of a second prior to a mid-session red flag, caused after Carlin’s Dougie Bolger locked up and skated into the barriers through the first part of the Complex, but rallied thereafter to set a benchmark time of 1:19.688.

That time, a tenth shy of the existing qualifying lap record, was enough to give him his second and third pole positions of the campaign by 0.093 seconds over Rees, with Fortec Motorsport’s Joel Granfors improving late on to secure third.

Aiden Neate enjoyed another starring role en route to fourth in the leading Phinsys by Argenti challenger, the Brit winning out in a personal battle with team-mate Matias Zagazeta, who rounds out the top five.

Joseph Loake completed a strong session for Steven Hunter’s JHR outfit in sixth, with Zak Taylor (Arden Motorsport), Ollie Gray (Fortec Motorsport) and Eduardo Coseteng (Argenti) behind blanketed by a mere 0.021s as Ford’s rising stars delivered another hard-fought session.

Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak secured the final spot in the top ten and led the line for Carlin, with team-mates Kai Askey and James Hedley 12th and 13th behind the final Argenti machine of Marcos Flack.

David Morales out-qualified the latest addition to Arden’s three-car line-up, Georgi Dimitrov, by a tenth, with Bolger slipping to the foot of the timesheets by virtue of his early exit from the session. He will, however, start the middle contest from pole position courtesy of the reverse-grid format.

The opening race of the weekend is scheduled to get underway at 14:15 (BST).
