JHR Developments’ Matthew Rees has praised the team spirit at the Derbyshire-based team ahead of the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost season opener at Thruxton.
The 15-year-old, who steps up into single seaters after an extensive karting career, partners Abbi Pulling, Eduardo Coseteng and McKenzy Cresswell in the team’s capacity four-car line-up.
Thruxton’s high-speed, 2.3-mile circuit awaits the Welsh racer this weekend after a positive testing programme during pre-season over the winter.
“Testing has been constructive. There have been some days where we’re not as quick but then some days we are right on it. Every time we go out we move forward, but we know we still want to get more out of the car and keep bonding as a team,” said Rees.
“The season will then start and hopefully, we can be somewhere towards the front of the grid.”
When asked about the team dynamic, Rees praised the atmosphere in the awning, and believes second-year driver Abbi Pulling in particular will provide him with a good benchmark for the season ahead.
“All of us drivers get on well, we talk, we joke, and we are getting good data,” he added.
“Abbi is a second-year driver and is very fast, so she is a brilliant person to compare myself to and it’s been a good team effort in that regard. Hopefully, I will be able to get toward the front of the grid and challenge for podiums as the season progresses.”
Sunday’s double-header of races will be screened live on ITV4.
