- Peruvian rising star moves to Argenti Motorsport for 2021 title bid.
- Driver and team looking to build on strong debut seasons in FIA Formula 4 last year.
- Zagazeta joins Marcos Flack at Michael Meadows’ outfit.
Matias Zagazeta will return to the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost in 2021 after agreeing a deal to switch to Argenti Motorsport.
The Peruvian impressed on his maiden campaign in Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series – his first in car racing – and was a force to be reckoned with in the Rookie Cup, claiming 14 class podiums, including a pair of victories.
In the outright stakes, the 16-year-old also cemented his credentials as a star of the future, taking ten points finishes in a highly competitive field, including two top-six results.
Prior to F4, Zagazeta’s CV also includes an impressive stint in karting at both domestic and international level.
The switch to Argenti for his sophomore season marks an important step for both driver and team, as Zagazeta looks to translate the experience gained from his rookie year into a title bid, and Argenti look to build on a strong debut campaign in the championship.
The team, led by former single seater and GT star Michael Meadows, took a brace of victories and equalled the record for consecutive podium finishes in their maiden assault on the series, and will look to build on those foundations in 2021.
Zagazeta joins the already-announced Marcos Flack at the team.
“I’m really looking forward to my second season in British F4,” commented Zagazeta.
“I’m very confident with myself and the team, and everything is working out nicely. I am very grateful for this opportunity and I will give everything on and off track to fight for the championship.”
Team Manager Michael Meadows expressed his delight at securing Zagazeta’s services for 2021 and believes the partnership will push both parties to new heights this season.
“We’re delighted to welcome Matias to Argenti Motorsport for the 2021 F4 British Championship,” said Meadows.
“As a team, we’re pushing to improve upon our performance last season and Matias is a driver who can help us achieve that.
“Matias established himself very well in the championship last season and showed signs of huge potential. Our job now is to nurture that talent and after some promising runs in testing with us, we’re confident we can help push him to the front of the grid.”
The 2021 F4 British Championship season will begin at Brands Hatch (Indy) over the weekend of 03-04 April.
