Mariano Martinez aiming to use experience to fight at the front

  • Mexican racer aiming to use past F4 experience to recover lost ground from testing.
  • Former NACAM entrant aiming to use Fortec Motorsport’s driver development scheme to continue British outfit’s strong record in the category.
  • New season begins at Brands Hatch on 6th-7th

Fortec Motorsport’s new recruit Mariano Martinez is looking to carry his experience forward and enjoy a successful start to the 2019 F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost season.

Martinez, who has past experience in FIA-sanctioned Formula 4 with several outings in the NACAM series, will partner fellow championship newcomer Roberto Faria at the British outift.

He placed eleventh on cumulative lap times at the series’ recent Media Day at Brands Hatch, clocking up nearly 150 laps as he looks to recover lost ground in testing against some of the opposition.

“Obviously because of the timing of my deal to join the grid, we haven’t been able to test as much as some of the other teams over the winter months,” explained Martinez.

“Despite that, however, I’m confident that between myself and the team at Fortec Motorsport, we’ll be able to catch up to the rest of the field very quickly and fight at the front before long.

“The team’s development programme is very thorough and their ‘leave no stone unturned’ approach is certain to be a big help to us as the season goes on.

“Between Roberto [Faria] and I, I’m sure it’ll be another strong season for the team.”

He also believes his past experience in F4 will prove useful as he adapts to the challenges of Ford’s winning formula, with the objective of fighting at the front before long.

“Having some experience in Formula 4 from NACAM is useful, but the level of competition in Britain, as well as the difficulty of the circuits, makes it a whole different game,” added Martinez.

“We showed some fantastic pace before though, so there’s no reason why we can’t carry that experience forward and compete for podiums once again in 2019.”

Once again this season, the F4 British Championship occupies a unique position as the sole single-seater support category on the UK’s premier motorsport package – the British Touring Car Championship.

That in itself guarantees a capacity trackside audience exceeding 30,000 spectators at most events alongside live, free-to-air television coverage nationwide on ITV4.

The new season begins at Brands Hatch on 6th-7th April.
