Marcos Flack leads Argenti 1-2 in opening Brands Hatch practice

Marcos Flack beat Matias Zagazeta to the fastest time by half a tenth of a second in the opening F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost practice session at Brands Hatch to complete a 1-2 finish for Phinsys by Argenti.

A lap time of 46.569 on his final run around the 1.2-mile Indy circuit proved enough for the Australian, riding the crest of a wave from his maiden podium at Snetterton a fortnight ago, to top an official session for the first time this season.

Although Zagazeta went close, the Peruvian was ultimately 0.056 seconds adrift of his team-mate, but ahead of third-placed Joel Granfors (Fortec Motorsport) by a similar margin.

Eduardo Coseteng made it three Argenti cars in the top four, with the other – newcomer Aiden Neate – eighth on his first competitive outing in the series to round out a strong start to the weekend for Michael Meadows’ outfit.

Zak Taylor led Arden Motorsport’s charge in fifth behind Coseteng, the quintet separated by just 0.2 seconds out on track. Double Snetterton race-winner Matthew Rees was sixth fastest for JHR, having topped the timesheets earlier in the session.

Joseph Loake was seventh in the second JHR challenger, with Fortec Motorsport’s Ollie Gray ninth behind Neate. Dougie Bolger completed the top ten fastest runners in the quickest of Carlin’s quartet.

Rookie Cup leader McKenzy Cresswell was next in eleventh, with Abbi Pulling a further half-tenth back in 12th. Roman Bilinski led team-mate Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak (both Carlin) in 13th and 14th respectively, with championship leading James Hedley rounding out the top 15.

Georgi Dimitrov was 16th in the sole Richardson Racing entry, the 19-runners completed by Thomas Ikin (Arden), Kai Askey (Carlin) and David Morales (Arden).

The weekend continues with second practice at 16:45 (BST) this afternoon.
