Fortec Motorsport’s Luke Browning is in buoyant mood heading to the second round of the 2020 F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost at Brands Hatch (GP) this weekend (08-09 August).
The iconic 2.4-mile Kent circuit ranks among Browning’s favourites, and was the scene of a triple podium finish – second, third, then second again – in the final round of the 2019 season.
Browning’s 2020 campaign also kicked off with silverware at Donington Park last weekend; the 18-year old from Cheshire took the runner-up spot in the opening and final race to move into second overall in the standings, 16 points behind early leader Zak O’Sullivan (Carlin).
But for an off-circuit moment at the Old Hairpin in a chaotic reverse-grid contest, it was title-contending form from Browning at the opening event, something the Fortec racer is keen to repeat this time around.
“I think we had the fastest lap in two out of the three races, it was just unfortunate that we didn’t get to get that win in the first weekend,” says Browning.
“I think we maximised the weekend to a certain point, there was only one mistake from my end but I’m really confident because of how the car felt. I can’t wait to get to Brands [Hatch], it’s one of my favourite tracks.”
“Hopefully we can work our way out of there with the championship lead and start to build a proper title challenge.”
