Louis Foster underlined his pride after a strong season in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost, culminating in a third-place finish for the Double R racer overall.
Foster raced out of the blocks in the early part of the season, claiming three wins and a further podium from the opening six rounds at Brands Hatch and Donington Park to take a 17-point advantage over team mate Sebastian Alvarez at the top of the standings heading to Thruxton.
Some bad luck – coupled with Zane Maloney’s famous mid-season winning streak – left Foster with an uphill battle in the title race but, just as he did twelve months ago in Ginetta Juniors, the Hampshire racer made a late break for the winner’s circle.
A return to the top step at Knockhill amidst Maloney’s mechanical misfortune set the tone for Silverstone, with the BRDC Rising Star claiming a superb double win and a further podium amongst the drama for his fellow title contenders to re-ignite his title challenge.
Foster arrived at Brands Hatch for the decider 30 points adrift of both Maloney and Alvarez, and looked to be in a position to keep thinning the gap, but for unfortunate contact with Maloney at Paddock Hill Bend in the opening race; the net result left Foster in the gravel, and out of the hunt.
Nevertheless, Foster can look back with pride on a season that yielded six race wins, twelve podiums and a solid foundation as he looks to propel himself towards a professional career in the sport.
His efforts also went some way to helping Double R Racing secure the Teams’ Cup with the healthiest ever winning margin.
“It’s been a fantastic year and I’m really proud to end the season 3rd in the standings,” commented Foster.
“I would have liked to have ended the year with another trip to the podium, especially after qualifying, but it just wasn’t to be this weekend.
“A massive thank you must go to everyone at Double R Racing for giving me the best car – Connor and I worked tirelessly all year trying to find the sweet spot. Also, a big thank you to Lucas for being a mega mechanic.”
Foster also took the opportunity to credit his sponsors and management at MB Partners for their role in his success.
“Thank you to my sponsors: Copart, Vansdirect, HRSP Ignition, Butlers Race Car Finance and Key Currency for allowing me to follow my dream.
“Thank you to everyone at MB Partners for helping out with literally everything – and giving me guidance when times were tough. 2019 has been a fantastic year and I can’t wait to get going again!”
