F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost graduate Johnathan Hoggard has become the latest recipient of the prestigious Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Award.
The 19-year old triumphed against stern competition from fellow finalists Enaam Ahmed, Jamie Chadwick and Ayrton Simmons to win the accolade, for which he will receive a prize test in an Aston Martin Red Bull Racing car.
Hoggard also wins a cheque for £200,000, full membership of the British Racing Driver’s Club, a drive in Aston Martin’s GTE World Endurance Championship car, an Arai helmet and a TAG Heuer watch.
Hoggard – who finished third in 2018 with the highest number of wins (8) of the entire field – has since transitioned across to the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship with Fortec Motorsport and took the title down to the wire in 2019, ultimately finishing as runner-up to Clement Novalak.
The Award comprised several stages including fitness and simulator tests at Red Bull Racing, a two-day test at Silverstone in MSV F2, Ligier LMP3 and Aston Martin Vantage GT3 machinery, as well as a formal interview with a star-studded judging panel.
“I’m over the moon! I’m lost for words. I’ve been waiting for over a month for this and it’s been agonising,” Hoggard told Autosport.com.
“I’m thankful for everyone who’s helped along the way, family, sponsors, judges and the organisers.
“I knew it was very tough competition and it’s amazing [to have won].”
Hoggard’s plans for 2020 are yet to be confirmed, though he recently took part in the post-season FIA Formula 3 test at Valencia with the Sauber Junior Team.
