Fortec Motorsport’s Joel Granfors headed up the timesheets in an ultra-competitive final F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost practice session at Knockhill.
The Swede set a blistering 49.342, virtually on par with Matthew Rees’ time from earlier in the day’s running, to go fastest on his final run around the 1.2-mile Fife circuit, mere minutes before a late change in the weather forced a red flag and a slightly early end to proceedings.
Erstwhile pace-setter Matias Zagazeta (Phinsys by Argenti) was just 0.035 seconds further back from Granfors, with the top three remarkably blanketed by just half a tenth, Zagazeta’s team-mate Aiden Neate taking third spot.
JHR Developments’ Abbi Pulling enjoyed another strong run to set the fourth-fastest time, a tenth off Granfors’ benchmark, with FP1 pace-setter Rees rounding out the top five on this occasion.
Dougie Bolger was sixth fastest in the leading Carlin challenger, with team-mate Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak close behind in seventh spot. The other two JHR challengers – Joseph Loake and McKenzy Cresswell – completed the top ten, the pair split by Zak Taylor’s Arden Motorsport machine.
Kai Askey (Carlin) and championship leader James Hedley (Fortec) were 11th and 12th, followed by Marcos Flack (Argenti) and Ollie Gray next, the latter in the final of Fortec’s trio of entries.
Eduardo Coseteng (Argenti) and David Morales (Arden) round out a 16-car field split by just 0.7 seconds across the day’s running. The weekend continues with qualifying at 10:55 on Saturday (14 Aug).
