Phinsys by Argenti’s Aiden Neate set the benchmark time in the opening F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost practice session of the weekend at Croft.
The 15-year-old set a fastest time of 1:19.661 on his final run around the 2.12-mile Yorkshire circuit, enough to annex top spot by just over a tenth of a second from JHR Developments duo McKenzy Cresswell and Matthew Rees, both erstwhile pace-setters in this session.
The entire field posted improved times after a late-session red flag to retrieve debris from the circuit, with Fortec Motorsport’s Ollie Gray rising to fourth on the timesheets ahead of Arden Motorsport’s Zak Taylor to complete the top five.
Still on a high after his maiden victory in Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series last time out at Thruxton, Joel Granfors was sixth fastest on this occasion, the Swede a mere 0.005s behind Taylor at the chequered flag.
Joseph Loake made it all three JHR cars in the top ten with seventh, the squad down a challenger after Abbi Pulling’s withdrawal, with Matias Zagazeta – Rees’ closest challenger in the championship battle – eighth for Phinsys by Argenti.
He led team-mate Marcos Flack and Dougie Bolger to round out the ten quickest cars, Bolger in turn leading his fellow Carlin entries Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak and Kai Askey.
Eduardo Coseteng was next in the final Argenti challenger, with James Hedley (Carlin) sandwiched by David Morales and Georgi Dimitrov’s Red Arrows to complete the 17-car field.
