- Karting star added to Fortec Motorsport’s line-up for penultimate event of the season at Silverstone this weekend [28-29 September].
- 16-year old aiming to extract the maximum from each session; Team Manager Ollie Dutton expects Lulham to adapt fast and pick up three solid results.
- Lulham joins team’s existing line-up of Roberto Faria and Mariano Martinez.
Chris Lulham will make his F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost at Silverstone, Northamptonshire, this weekend after agreeing a deal to race with Fortec Motorsport.
The 16-year old graduates into Britain’s FIA-sanctioned Formula 4 category following a silverware-laden karting career and will partner the team’s existing line-up of Roberto Faria and Mariano Martinez.
Lulham’s trajectory through the ranks began in Honda Cadets, before switching to Mini Max and rising through the British Super One Championship.
In 2016, he was crowned Junior X30 European Champion, before securing the World Vice-Champion honours in OKJ the following year.
More recently, Lulham opted to focus on his GCSE examinations and instead set about establishing a reputation in the sim racing community to keep sharp, but is now free to pursue a break into car racing once again.
“I’m delighted to be making my F4 British Championship debut at Silverstone this weekend,” commented Lulham.
“After taking a year out to focus on my GCSE exams, this is an important next step on the ladder. I’ve been keeping sharp with sim racing in the meantime, but it’ll be good to be back out in a proper race car, at one of the most iconic circuits in the country.
“A big thank you to Fortec Motorsport for giving me this opportunity. I’m not setting any expectations for myself, as we’re jumping in at the deep end a little bit, but if I can finish all three races and extract the maximum from each session, I’ll be happy.
“This is a step up from karting, quite different in terms of driving style and race craft and a bit of a reset in terms of experience, but I’m sure I’ll adapt well and make progress across the weekend.”
Fortec Motorsport’s F4 Team Manager, Ollie Dutton, underlined his happiness at getting a deal concluded and believes Lulham will hit the ground running at the ‘Home of British Motorsport’ from the get-go this weekend.
“All of us at Fortec Motorsport are delighted to have Chris join us for the penultimate F4 British Championship round at Silverstone this weekend,” said Dutton.
“After testing with him last year, I was impressed with his initial pace and how quickly he adapted to the car.
“Chris has had a fantastic karting career and hopefully this will translate whilst we work together to get some solid results this weekend.
“He hasn’t been able to get out in the car as much as we would like, but I’m confident with the extra day of testing on Thursday we can get him straight on the pace. We’re looking forward to an exciting weekend ahead!”
