11 APRIL, 2017 – As the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost campaign resumes at Donington Park this weekend, young Swede Linus Lundqvist is determinated to fight back following a debut weekend to forget – and with a brand new engine to power his Double R Racing-prepared machine.
Lundqvist’s first taste of F4 competition went from promise to frustration a fortnight ago, with the 18-year-old rookie topping Friday free practice but then retiring from all three of the weekend’s races due to recurring technical problems. Heading into the Easter meeting at Donington Park, however, it’s all about positive thinking and new opportunities for the current Formula STCC Nordic champion.
“This is where my season starts,” said Lundqvist. “I’ve put Brands Hatch behind me and am only focusing on the future – and I think it’s a very bright one. The aim this weekend will be to fight for wins and podiums. We have the pace to perform at that level and I hope we can prove it throughout the rest of the year.”
With Double R Racing having worked relentlessly over the last ten days to analyse the events of the season-opener, the decision has been made to install a brand new 1.6 litre Ford EcoBoost engine in Lundqvist’s car ahead of this weekend’s races. Lundqvist shook down the new powerplant at Pembrey on Monday and is now confident the issues are put firmly to rest.
“I’m glad we got a new engine,” Lundqvist concludes. “It’s the best way to ensure a fresh start, and it ran without trouble at Pembrey. We should be running reliably from now on and have things back under control, so I’m really looking forward to getting out there and push for a strong result this weekend!”
