Carlin’s Zane Maloney takes double pole position at Croft

- Carlin hit the front in Croft qualifying with Maloney on pole for Races 1 & 3.
- Top eleven all set lap times beneath Zane Goddard’s 2016 record on re-surfaced track.
- Opening race of the weekend scheduled to get underway at 14:10 BST.
Zane Maloney set a new lap record en route to a double pole position in qualifying ahead of the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost triple-header at Croft this weekend [15th-16th June].
The Barbadian racer clocked a best lap time of 1:19.547 on the re-surfaced 2.1-mile circuit, edging out fellow title rivals and Double R Racing duo Sebastian Alvarez and Louis Foster by a little under four tenths of a second.
The trio are unlikely to have it all their own way, however, with Arden’s trio of rising stars – Bart Horsten, Tommy Foster and Alex Connor – occupying positions fourth through to sixth, with Foster and Connor also chasing their first silverware in the Ford EcoBoost-powered series.
Then follows Maloney’s team-mate, Joe Turney, just 0.010 seconds in turn ahead of local hero Josh Skelton (JHR Developments), with the recently-announced Motorsport UK Academy racer aiming to bring home a good result for his home crowd.
Richardson Racing’s Luke Browning will need a repeat of his almost-trademark drives through the field so far in 2019 if he is to make up ground in the title battle after managing just ninth, with Skelton’s JHR team-mate Carter Williams rounding out the top ten.
Roberto Faria was eleventh as the last of the drivers to set a lap time beneath Zane Goddard’s 2016 record, with team-mate Mariano Martinez for company on the sixth row of the grid in twelfth.
Reema Juffali rounds out the field in the third of the Double R-run machines.
The grid remains virtually unchanged for the ITV4-televised final race on Sunday, the only swaps between Foster and Alvarez for second and third, and again for tenth between Faria and Williams.
The opening race of the weekend is scheduled to get underway at 14:10 BST.
