British F4 promoter Sam Roach predicts “another vintage year”

F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford EcoBoost promoter Sam Roach expects the grid numbers to continue to rise as the first drivers to sign up to Ford’s winning formula prepare to meet the media at Brands Hatch.

Interest in Britain’s FIA-sanctioned Formula 4 category has been high over the winter months, with drivers from seven different countries already committed to the series across six of the continents best single-seater outfits – Arden, Carlin, Double R, Fortec, JHR and Richardson Racing.

Further announcements are expected in due course, with a number of deals set to be concluded before the opening event at Brands Hatch in early April.

“It’s been a very positive winter for the series, with a number of interesting announcements,” commented Roach.

“Every championship will say it, but I honestly cannot predict a winner this season. The quality of our newcomers is certain to give those returning for a second season a headache.

“All our teams are still working behind-the-scenes on some late additions to the grid for 2019 and I think it’s great so many future motorsport stars are recognising that our cost-effective, reliable and race-proven package is the only place to start their journey in motor racing.

“It’s very apparent we’re in for another vintage year of F4 racing.”

Once again in 2019, British F4 occupies a unique position as the sole single-seater support category on the UK’s premier motorsport package – the British Touring Car Championship.

Labelled the ‘biggest stage in Britain’, the TOCA package guarantees a capacity trackside crowd spanning over 30,000 spectators at most events alongside live, free-to-air television coverage nationwide on ITV4.

The Ford EcoBoost-powered series has already amassed an enviable list of alumni in just four years, with graduates such as Lando Norris, Colton Herta, Matheus Leist, Dan Ticktum and Max Fewtrell now racing in Formula 1, IndyCar, Super Formula and FIA Formula 3 respectively.

The new season gets underway at Brands Hatch on 6th-7th April.
