23 NOVEMBER, 2016 – Radlett-based racing driver Alex Jones is set to get behind the wheel of a Ford EcoBoost-powered racer at Silverstone later this week.
Having made promising progress in 750MC Formula Vee during the 2016 season, the 23-year-old will test for new British F4 team GW Motorsport run by Gary Ward as Jones evaluates options for next year.
This won’t be the first time Jones has tested a ‘slicks & wings’ single-seater, having impressed in a British F3 car towards the end of last year. However, he was unable to secure a full season’s budget and opted to stick with Formula Vee for 2016.
“It’s a great opportunity and I’m really excited to test the British F4 car so a huge thank you to GW Motorsport”, commented a buoyant Jones.
“I worked with the team’s driver coach, Max Robinson, back in 2013 so I really hope to make a positive impression with him and of course Gary and the team.
“I’ve had a seat-fitting and met the guys at the workshop so now I’ll be spending the lead-up to the test doing my homework and making sure I’m at my fittest so I can be 100% focused.
“After testing a British F3 car in October last year, I feel a lot more experienced with an additional season’s racing under my belt. I’m ready to take on this latest challenge.”
Jones will take to the track for his test with the Northampton-based outfit on 25 November.
